Lace sensors for Gilmour tone

Hi there

i ve got two Gilmour clone strats, one black with ssl5-ssl1-ssl1 combo, and one red with the emg dg 20 system which i dont like. I intend to take the emg off, and briefly thought of installing the super awesome ssl5/ssl1 ones in that too, but that does not have any point, since i already got them on my other strat.

I then thought i would like to maintain the "covered" "no holes" emg pickup look on my red gilmourish strat, so first pickups that came to mind are the lace sensors. I have never tried them so i know nothing about them. First questions is if the lace pickups are good pickups and decent for Gilmour tones.

Second question is which set to choose?. I ve found two pickup sets that might be interesting.

1)The first one is a set comprised by 2 X hot golds (6K) each and one hotter hot gold bridge single at 13.2K (which is close to the ssl5)

2) the other one is the Blue/Silver/red combo (from neck>middle>bridge)

Which one do you find to be best for Gimour tones? One added note from me is that the bridge pickup needs to be nice and hot and as close as possible to an SSL5 (which i love) and was wonderng if the red lace is close to the ssl5, or the hot gold 13,2K is better.

Re: Lace sensors for Gilmour tone

red silver blue is powerful but flat and uninspiring to play. The red is actually hot like a hot humbucker, the blue is more paf like and the silver is just a kind of non descript flat humbucker tone. They all have fairly powerful mids, but really are at their best in high gain applications because of their hum free quality rather than any complex or interesting sonic character of their own.
Hot golds are the best laces because they are the most articulate.
I took the laces out of my strat many years ago tho.
You just cant beat the life and breathy harmonic swirl of true singles, and the ssl5, ssl1 combo is pretty damn hard to beat.
Have you thought about perhaps creating something similar to your ssl1/5 combo but making a noiseless strat with a set of classic stacks and a hot stack in the bridge? It wont be the same as the true singles, but it will be a very useable axe in venues that have noisy wiring/lighting etc.

Well tbh honest, strange as it may seem, i only thought of laces because of the looks as i want to maintain the emg covered pickups look. I know they won t be better than my ssl5/ssl1/ssl1 combo, but was wondering if at least they could be close.

Best noise-cancelling single coils I've tried are the Zexcoils.

Contact Scott and ask about the best set for Gilmour tones.

Though you may be put off by their looks, I bet that the single coil Lace Alumitones might surprise you.

A trio comprising of Light Blue / Emerald / Emerald sensors would replicate the relative output levels of The Black Strat but lack the tone and dynamics.

Rod magnet polepieces are an important element in the DG sound.
