Laney LC15 questions

i have just bought a laney lc15 for £95 second hand and would like to know somethings.

firstly this one has a hh invader speaker, are these any good and are these from older versions and the latest seem to have celestion 10s in.

also there doesn't seem to be a speaker out but according to the manual on the laney site there should be for both the lc15 and lc15r.

There is a line out on mine, what is that for? can i run a cab using that?

does the laney lc15 need the tubes biasing when replaced?

also can people suggest some valves to give the laney a bit more punch for metal

are there any decent pedals i should buy for use with it?

if the hh invader speaker could do with being replaced, what other 10" speaker should i swap it for?

is there anything else i should know?

thanks

Re: Laney LC15 questions

It has been a year I have my LC15R and if there is one thing I can tell you, it is definitely not made for metal. I guess you could get there with the right pedal but I found the sound get quickly too fat and lacks of definition when you crank up the gain or boost the power section with a pedal.

I have been trying to get an Alice in Chains sound for a while and if I found something that suits me for now, I wouldn't really say that I got a metal sound as such.

Mine has the Celestion 10 tube.

Maybe your speaker's plugged into it

No, it's more like at a gig you'd run through the PA using that, although I'd still recommend putting a mic on your speaker.

Re: Laney LC15 questions

The LC15 does need to be biased. The bias pot is accessed through a hole in the chassis near the tubes. Your LC15 is an earlier model, like mine, with less options on the back panel.

i heard el84 power tubes don't beed to be biased when replacements are put in?

Re: Laney LC15 questions

Nope. They don't need to be biased IF the amp is cathode biased. Such as in the AC15 and 30. Most amps however, especially the bigger ones operate in fixed bias mode where, annoyingly, you usually have to adjust it.

Re: Laney LC15 questions

i emailed laney and they told me it does need to be biased. I find that annoying to be honest. i don't see the advantage of a practice amp that needs rebiasing when they could probably have it so that it doesn't need rebiasing.
