Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

If you want a small EL84 combo how about...maybe a Dr. Z the Carmen Ghia is a killer little amp and can be had in a head, 1x12 or 2x10 combo, there is the Mini Z head of the older 1x12 combo, maybe even an AC15CC...with the right speaker the sound quite good. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head...

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

the Ghia is still a little out of range price wise...i could get a Mini Z as well...i wonder how they compare?

Very different amps, different preamps plus the mini has no tone stack at all and a built in attenuator not to mention the mini is single ended and the Ghia is not...

A used Ghia is less than that leney is new...I've seen used Ghia heads for $650 give or take lately...

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

the Lionheart i'm looking at is used also...so i imagine their used prices are comparable.!?

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

Im not sure what the laney will go for used...

Whats your budget??

If you can swing it a Z will be the last amp you ever need, they are so well made and sound amazing!

Check the Dr. Z forum for some pretty good deals...

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

The Lionheart is a better buy than the Mini Z. First off the Lionheart has a wider range of useable sounds. It has a clean channel and a dirty channel with enough gain for a lot of applications. It comes with a Celestion Heritage G12H and a bigger and better sounding cab than the Mini Z.

I still think the Mini Z is a neat little booger but there's no contest between it and a Lionheart. Get the Lionheart dude :)

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

Lionheart or Genz Benz Black Pearl 30 with a single 12".

+1 A 12" speaker sounds amazing. The 4x10 is fantastic but I played the head on a 2x12 Mesa cab and it was better.

What are you basing this info on?? Sounds like all opinion to me...have you ever played a mini z???

Yes I have. I owned a MAZ38 for 2 years. I'm very familiar with Dr.Z products as well as Laney. It's kind of my thing :)

I've got a Lionheart 5w....i love it. The Heritage 30 in there give's it just enough bottom end thump, but not to much top end that it will go harsh (unlike a celestion blue). It brings through the guitar's tone rather then just sounding like ' oh this is a fender amp..this is a marshal' etc etc. Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul. A strat sounds like a strat etc.

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

I have played the Lionheart L5T and it's my favorite low budget amp. Nice warm clean & OD sounds, reverb and very good selection of speaker for the amp. You will need a pedal for high gain sounds.

In America yeh and Australia they are but our dollar is so bad now everything is really expensive. In the UK and I assume Europe I'd say its much cheaper. Like how VOX's are quite cheap there relative to how much they cost in the US (and Australia).

There are cheaper amps like the Valve Jr I have but I meant complete amps, not one knob amps or amps made with cheap parts. The L5T has quality in it's aprts and it's sound. And it's cheaper in Europe because it's european like american products are cheaper in USA. Regardless of price it's a good amp.

Re: Laney Lionheart L5t

doesn't look like the lionheart deal is gonna work out either...

i've got the 808 on the bay now...then i'm just gonna wait for a good deal on one of the types of amps i've been looking at and then just buy it!

thanks for all the advice fellas!
