Something that's pretty cool to me is the way that different eras of Strats age. The early 50's maple ones used a single ply white pickguard that stayed pretty white over the years, while the pickup covers, knobs and tips aged to a yellowish color. With the big change at the end of the 50's to 3-ply and rosewood, the pickguards trended toward blue or mint green depending on UV and nicotine exposure, while the knobs/covers/tips seem to head down the yellow path. (I love that mint/aged yellow look, btw)
What I'm not to sure of is after the pickguard material changed again in the mid 60's (celluloid to PVC?) how did it age? If you see a 67/68/69 strat do they generally have a whiter guard with yellow plastics? Or did it all turn kind of yellowish?
Also is the difference between "parchment" plastic and "aged yellow" that the parchment is a little more restrained look and the aged yellow is more extreme?
(Time for a makeover on the Strat, and I'm gathering data to see what color combos I like for the plastic parts)
