Latest cheap guitar score. (Neck Thru BC Rich Warlock)

dominus

King Midas to Cheap Guitars
Paid $145 delivered for it. With a case. Sold the case for $70. It had a JB in the bridge (with the original bridge humbucker stored in the case.) Sold that for $50. Stock pickups went for $20. Had an EVH D-Tuna on the licensed Floyd Rose, sold that... Then I put parts on that I had sitting around. String through Licensed Floyd Rose, (because I hate cutting the ball ends off) Dimarzio Super 3 in the bridge and Dimarzio Air Zone wired in parallel in the neck. Made the trem cover from a plastic lid from a bin that cost $1. I've basically got at most $100 into this.

I don't know what the extra holes on the face were from, but I'm not too concerned about them at this point. :D

Nice axe!! I've always liked the Warlocks but found them pretty cheap and meh. That one looks like an exception. Nice grab!! I'm trying to read on the headstock, is that a NJ? Are those better than the bronze/plat series I'm guessing?

Yup, the NJ was the higher end of the import line. (With the Neck Thru model being near the top.) I want to say these were $600-ish new, and that was with the junk BC Rich stock pickups. Bronze models are the bottom of the line, the Platinum ones are the next step from that, then they had the Platinum Pro, Standard, etc...

Re: Latest cheap guitar score. (Neck Thru BC Rich Warlock)

Got it, I've overlooked a few. I'm not a big fan of V's but I almost picked up a Bich for pretty cheap, it was an NJ.

Re: Latest cheap guitar score. (Neck Thru BC Rich Warlock)

Cloud inlays indicate higher up the line IIRC. Those use to be only available on the US models, and then only on certain ones.

However, with all the crazy changes they've made in recent years with using certain higher end specs on lower end models, it's getting harder to keep them separated. I do know the Bronze were the bottom of the barrel, but there were a few Platinum/Pro models that were not bad at all. The few I tried were comparable to late-90s/early-2000s Jackson imports as far as initial feel. Never owned one though. My singer had a neon yellow Platinum series Warlock, and there was Rob Marcello at NAMM in 04 using one (replaced Andy Timmons in Danger Danger) and he was tearing it up.

I'm looking at the Lita Ford signature Warlock going for ~$1000 on Ebay and the retro series (with the "R" head) and am tempted.
Always wanted a Warlock.

Beats my Platinuum basher for sure. Much win oh great Dominus!

:notworthy

Those Retro NJ's are killer. One of the few guitars I regret not buying (in like 1986…)

"String through Licensed Floyd Rose"

Far out. I've never even heard of such a thing.

I've got an original with the same thing. Instead of allen screws to lock the screws/blocks in place, they're hollow tubes that you feed the strings through.

They're technically referred to as "single locking" (but I dislike the term, as it's pretty vague):

Where can I get a hold of one? Seems dandy. I would probably just replace the base plate thing with an OFR part.

Found it. "Fastloader"?

You might be able to swap the saddles with the ones on an OFR. I don't think you could swap a baseplate or anything like that.

Roland GK pu?

:smack:

That's it. I had one of those years ago, and double sided tape worked JUST fine for holding it in place. It looks like they moved the pickup itself a few times judging from the extra holes between the bridge humbucker ring and bridge.

I wonder if that has the same neck profile as her guitars? A few years ago I had a chance to play an '88 USA Warlock that had originally been built for her. It sounded pretty good, but that thing had the tiniest neck I've ever seen. My hands are kind of on the large side, so it was painful to play for more than a few minutes.

I'm inclined to say "MIDI pickup" for the holes between bridge and bridge pickup... aaaand I shoulda kept reading.

Re: Latest cheap guitar score. (Neck Thru BC Rich Warlock)

Not a fan of the peghead. Damn nice guitar though. I would also say Roland MIDI PU.

Re: Latest cheap guitar score. (Neck Thru BC Rich Warlock)

I had a GK-3 mounted on one of mine a few years back. Checked the hole locations and would have to concur that it's got to be for that. Didn't see the one between the pickup and bridge at first, I was looking at the mark on the upper wing near the back, going "arm rest?"
