Too good a deal to pass up. Always liked the MIK versions of these

Pick it up the end of the month, needed another guitar. Remember kids one is not enough and 100 isn't too many:jester:

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

Went to grab some strings and I saw it just hanging there.

With the case and tax it was under $200, I couldn't say no. Played really well, frets were good, it was super clean except for a small ding in the top.

It'll likely get proper Duncans, better guts and some nicer tuners but a really solid guitar.

BTMN do you know how to date these?

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

XT after Hamer? If blank older Korean maybe early 2000s XT is Chinese and mid to late 2000s maybe 2010 or '11 even but IIRC imports stopped not long after Fender bought Hamer in 2008. Serial numbering on imports are mearly unit number I'm afraid. Same with Dean Korean stuff.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

Early 2000s then. No date codes or anything to date them. As I said it was mearly the number of the guitar in line basically. Those Duncan Designed are decent pickups. look under them and find the code to see what they are more than likely they are Duncan Distortion B and 59 N Clones. Enjoy slinging that one.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

I kind of think the pups are the JB/59 knock-offs just from messing with it when I tried it out.

No worries.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

DD JB/59 set, what I figured. I like the DD JB better than the USA, it isn't as focused and has a little more of wirey sound.

Picked it up Wednesday, finally got to get a real set of strings on it today. Near new condition, just outstanding for an MIK guitar.

Nice score Scott. I had a MIC Standard XT with the DDJB/Jazz and I liked them both better than the USA versions as well.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

I have one of the late Indonesian-made XT series. PGn suits it perfectly. Still experimenting with bridge/Treble position pickups. The 11k PRS Chainsaw is destined to go in a PRS SE.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

I see that the "wandering" fret position markers are not unique to the Indonesian production. :D

If you are going to upgrade the controls, consider a Freeway 3x3-03 selector switch. This will get the most out of the stock pickups without resorting to push-pull pots or the expense of Triple Shot surrounds.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

I don't need all those options switch wise. This is just getting a Switchcraft 3-way, I tend to break the import switches pretty quickly.

It has Cor-Tek pots so I assume it was made at the Cort plant in S. Korea.

Re: Layaway Day - MIK Hamer

So a little update

I put on a set of Grovers and swapped the stock bridge for the Nashville off my LP. It fixed all the tuning issues and killed odd resonant honk I'd get off the bridge from the low "E" occasionally. The upgrades really opened what was already a really good sounding guitar.

I'll definitely grab another one of these at some point.
