Layers (using mainly the AxeFX)

Tor

Riffologist Extraordinaire
This is what I've been doing for the most part of the day.. Except of the acoustic stuff that's in the background from start to end, the rest is recorded through the AxeFX (using a Legacy, Nitefly and a JB-2 bass). I guess I could've done more work, but I don't have the time now, so here you go..

Re: Layers (using mainly the AxeFX)

I dig the tone, the structure, the delay, the ideas, the feeling, ah and the main arpeggio!
Did I mention that I like them all? Yes!!!! Lovely!

Re: Layers (using mainly the AxeFX)

Aw, dude, you're being way too kind with the words....... :) But thanks! I'm happy you liked it!

edit: I want to add that some of the patches are my creations, but most of the real atmospheric patches are the stock ones found in the unit (the Standard).

Duder I really dig this compositionally, and I recognize some of those patches from when I had a standard! Great chime to them!

What was the acoustic bit done with? It's pretty tasty in it's own right!

That kind of chorusy/light tremolo guitar in the center playing chords would sound awesome if you double tracked it and panned hard left/right - would really unclutter the center channel and leave a lot of breathing room for those lush delays/verbs you've got going on!

Oh man... the things you could do with an eBow!

Re: Layers (using mainly the AxeFX)

Thanks all for encouraging words! I really appreciate it!

That was beautiful, Tor! I also liked "Song for George".

Thanks.. :) If you didn't knew already, Song for George is an Eric Johnson tune. I recorded that cover a couple of years ago. With reduced tempo, of course.. And even then, I had a hard time playing it cleanly. ;)

Ah, I love feedback like this. Thanks, Jeff! I will definitely double track the guitars there for panning - I will try to finish it up within the week. I am thinking of taking away the solo guitars in the beginning, too.

The acoustic part is done with a Takamine, with their own preamp (the TK-40 to be specific). A dash of chorus and reverb is added to that track as well.

Thanks again for nice words, folks. :)

Thanks..!

More instrumentation (or less), or longer in duration, you mean?

Well, when I first heard it I thought to myself this would be cool if he dropped a Trip Hop drum beat in and some trippy vocals or vocal samples. I'd make it into a whole song.

Re: Layers (using mainly the AxeFX)

than try it rob and show him what you mean LOL!
This song is lovely, and it definetly deserves a publishing! I love it!

Ah, gottcha.. I am a sucker for long ambient pieces, but I figured I wanted a short "explosion" of sounds on this one.. I might try to bridge it to a second part where I can do a variation of the theme and adding some trippy drums there. For the bridging I could try to record some vocals for a first (not sure how to go about that one though, do you have some youtube examples you have in mind?), and use some glitching while droning on a little bit..

I'm just thinking loud here.. thanks for your advice! I'll finish what I have first, and when I get more time on my hands I might try your suggestion!

Dude, stop it, my head is exploding! :1:

Yeah, I am really thinking the AxeFX might be something for you.. ;)

I'm definitely gonna get a midi board myself, but not yet.

Thanks for taking it, it was difficult to get rid of.

edit: Hmm...
