Lefty Pickups

Hi all, I'm new here,
I have a set of right hand SD APS-1s fin my Stratocaster. After reading the spec list about these pups, I noticed they advertised the left hand version as to being well suited for Hendrix type stuff. Could a person just take a righty set and turn them around? This would be the economical way to go for me. Any input greatly appreciated, thanks!

PS,
I really like these pickups a lot..... A very balanced and nice tone, great vintage vibe! I'm very happy with these pickups, just experimenting and trying for a more focused tone I guess. Would probably get a another lefty set later, and then swap the righties to my other Strat, a '99 AmStd, if this works out.

Also,
Can you run a bassplate with these pickups? I noticed that the magnet polarity pulls the plate and have heard that some pickups are the opposite type of polarity, is it cool to run a plate on the APS?

Thnx again for any help.....

Re: Lefty Pickups

I suppose you could turn them around, but most single coils have a shaped baseplate, that may not work back to front, depending on your guitar's rout.

Re: Lefty Pickups

I play a lefty strat and just put a hotrails (upsidedown) in my bridge because i'm not clear on left or right pups. the sound is amazing.

Re: Lefty Pickups

I install my righty staggered pickups opposite in my lefty strats....Most of the time you'll need some slight wood removal around the middle and neck mounting areas...

There is no need to do this with a Hot Rails. It would only make a difference on pickups that have staggered pole pieces similar to a vintage Fender pickup.

Re: Lefty Pickups

dont mean to steal your thread but my next pup is going to be a lil59 in the neck or mid position. does it have staggerd pole pieces?

Re: Lefty Pickups

Thnx for all the input everbody, very appreciated!

I went ahead and turned the bridge and neck pickups around 180, the middle wouldn't fit cuz the routing shape was all wrong. The neck/bridge are routed for buckers and was no problem fitting. [The neck pup barely touches the body though on the neck side of the pickup routing]

I can't really explain very well just how it changed the tone, but it sure did......and I like it!

The guitar is a Lite Ash Strat BTW. So far, after 7 months of ownership - I've wired it all up with vintage type cloth wire, better pots and switch, along with a touch up on the fret ends. I'm loving this guitar more and more every day...

As I stated, you normally have to do some wood removal unless you have a swimming pool routed strat...I Like my staggers to be the correct way over my strings..
