Legendary albums recorded using cheap guitars, amps.

Re: Legendary albums recorded using cheap guitars, amps.

They used a lot of Epi's in the 90's, I wonder if they had stock pickups.

Prior to Definitely Maybe Noel used an Epiphone LP Standard into a Marshall 1x12 Valvestate combo amp which was used as a preamp to drive a Vox AC-30 and later a Wem Dominator (essentially 18W Marshall clone) combo. During the recording of Definitely Maybe in the Spring of 1994 Noel started using a pair of Gibson LPs he received from Johnny Marr into a Marshall JCM900 blended with an Orange OR80 Overdrive. The bridge pickup in the Gibson LP Standard looks like a DiMarzio PAF; the LP Custom had black open-coil pickups which may have been stock. In the Definitely Maybe documentary Noel mentions writing 'Slide Away' the night he received one of the Johnny Marr LPs, so it's likely that they were used on at least some of the album. 'Supersonic' was recorded separately from the rest of the album in March 1994, so the Epi would have been used on at least that track.

Bonehead's setup was much simpler; he used an early 80s MIJ Epiphone Riviera with humbuckers & stop bar into a late 70s Marshall MV 2x12 combo (2104?) for almost his entire time with Oasis.
