Legit Iceman?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Looks like a Korean Cort factory, 1995, November, number ~556 of the year

The tuners obviously changed...ignore that.

Yes on all counts. The earlier non-Japan serial numbers followed their Japan counterparts in having the letter indicating the factory (P – Peerless; C – Cort), first digit the year, then a production number.

The tuners on my 94 are fine, the only real issue Ive had since I had it is the nut but I think they put a cheaper nut on my Iceman.

IME Hipshot tuners suck

Get a good set of MIJ Gotoh tuners on that thing so at least some part of it is right :18:

How do you not already own an Iceman?

I'd replace with the originals anyway - so a non-issue.

But there are the Chinese models. Eyeing a couple of them....in the sub $900 range. They do come with Duncans already...

I don't like open gear tuners. It's just a poor design. You want to keep debris and crap out of those gears, they should be covered. There do exist well made open gear tuners, but none of them will work better over their lifetime than similar quality closed tuners.

Just an FYI - I'm gonna replace them with the original ones. I don't care about the ones on there now.

I think people choose the open ones for 2 reasons: weight & some sort of tradition.

Ace - you can find OEM parts or repros over on the Ibanez Collectors World forum.

Ibanez Collectors World - Index

Thanks, Chris, that is a great resource. I didn't search the site yet, but I would be surprised if anyone that had the original tuners would be willing to part with them. The tuners are shaped like the headstock. If someone is willing to part with them, I would imagine they are asking for premium money.

I would look for a set of good tuners and set of the modern version of the Velvetuners and steal the buttons off them for a swap. The newer ones aren't very good tuners but they look good and usually you can find them cheap
