Les Paul case

Looking for Real Life
Seems appropriate with all the LP action happenin these days, plus this gig bag just isn't cuttin it--who the hell puts a les paul in a gig bag?

So what hardshell case does everyone like for their les paul? I'm kind of torn between this

Musicians Gear Deluxe for $40

and this

Silver Creek for $70

but I'm not sure the price would be justified.

Of course, this Gator GW is the one I really REALLY want, but it's f-in a hundred dollars. I doubt it's more than twice the case the MG one is. But it looks so cool haha

Re: Les Paul case

Look at it this way dude. You swung some GOOD cash to get that guitar. Not just that, you told us this wasn't a LP, it was THE Les Paul, the one that spoke to you. With that said, if this is true, you'll be playing the sucker for about 40 years, at least. That means that if you did get the hundered dollar case, it would cost you a little over 2 dollars a year to keep your guitar safe, in the case you want. Even less than that if you get the 70$ case. So at least get that one.

Personally, when it comes to protecting my prized guitar, I see it as investement. Also, while you're at it, don't be cheap : spend the extra 20$, and get a good set of straplocks for that thing. It deserves a good case and straplocks.

I know, you hate me.

Re: Les Paul case

Before I sold my Epi LP It came with a SKB Hardcase similar to this. Only difference is that this one has the TSA approved locks. They are very sturdy, the case was a keeper however the guitar wasn't.

If you want your guitar to survive the Apocalypse there's this option from SKB as well....IT'S F**KIN WATERPROOF !!!

Re: Les Paul case

Spend the money on the good case, if you can afford it. I have a Musician's gear one, and it's ok, but doesn't fit my Gibson that tight. I have a folded up towel under the bottom of the guitar in it to make it fit snugly.

I fully endorse this post.

ANSWER - Gibson does! :banghead: I wish they wouldn't. It is a false economy.

My Gibson Goldtop lives in a proper black Gibson/TKL form fit case.
My Gibson LP Jr Spl and LTD-401 are in Hiscox Liteflite cases.

Especially when you bump the skinny end against something solid, and you hear that awful CRACK!!!!

I had my telecaster in a bag, and it took a bump and broke the tuner off (those tall Grover Lockers), and so I never put it in a bag anymore, and I switched to more solid tuners.

I wish they'd just charge the difference and ship everything with a hardshell case from the outset. They (and most manufacturers) act like they're "giving" you the case or gig bag, when in reality you're paying for it the same as you're paying for the pickups, the output jack, the tuning machines, the inlays, etc. A $700 guitar with a hardshell case is a better value than a $650 guitar with a tepid gigbag. Sure, that gigbag willl protect the guitar from scratches and such, but what'll protect it from your friend who accidentally sits on it?

Re: Les Paul case

A $1500+ guitar deserves the best case you can possibly afford for it. $100 or even more is more than justified for a Les Paul. I want my Lester protected completely, whether it's just sitting in the closet, under the bed or in the trunk of the car going to gigs. Don't cheap out of a case.

Stop drinking beer for a couple of weeks, skip eating out a few times if you have to and get the good case.

Re: Les Paul case

IMHO and I know some people disagree but gigbags are only good as dustcovers. If you want to protect the guitar get a case. Especially if you have something as fragile as a Gibson.

I agree. My Flying V came with a gigbag, and every time I carry it somewhere, I think of that headstock and how I'd like to keep it in the same relative location.

Re: Les Paul case

I had a pair of the Gator plastic shell, ATA-style cases for two of my ESP Ltds and they were great. I felt complete confidence that I could throw them around or drop them, or whatever and my axes would be kept 100% safe inside. Plus, I didn't have to worry about tolex/covering dinging, peeling, etc.

Nevertheless, any of these hardshell cases is miles better than a gig bag in protecting a guitar. And at the most, the case might take a beating -- but the guitar will no doubt rest safely inside.

Re: Les Paul case

$40 for a hard case?! That's great! I'd go for that.

I have a Gibson case, with white lining, for my LP, it's a great case, but if I was paying for one that $40 one looks good.

Not really. I've had a Musician's Gear case before. It's not worth it. Save up the extra cash and get a SKB case or something like it. If you want something REALLY nice, look into those Reunion Blues gig bags. They've done tests where they put guitars into the bag, toss it off a multiple story building, and the guitar still plays in tune.
