Use the stock case that come with most of my guitars. I have bought a few that didn't come with a case so I bought a gator case. Those were a few Fenders. Les Pauls should always be in a hard case.

While LP cases in general are commodities, there's real value in ones that are engineered to keep the guitar safe through catastrophes like touring, flying, children, etc. I'm guessing these cases have, in many cases, been designed with input from musicians who travel with their instruments and have, possibly, sustained damage from conditions that exceeded the talents of standard cases.

$250. That's not a stretch for a set of humbuckers. That's maybe 10% of a nice guitar, to some players. It's probably cheaper than a good headstock/neck repair. Certainly cheaper than replacing the guitar, whether it's a $2,500 Gibson or a $500 Agile.

I use Gibson cases. I like the older brown ones alot more than the new black ones. They feel more solid. I had bought a black one a couple years ago for Dixie and ended up selling it and buying the older brown style. I also dig the crap out of the 70's and 80's chainsaw cases if they are in good shape.

I use Gibson cases. I like the older brown ones alot more than the new black ones. They feel more solid. I've got a black Gibson LP case from maybe seven years ago, and it's not exactly a fallout shelter. One of the rivets popped out of a handle anchor, maybe the third time I carried it. What Gibson doesn't provide, Lowe's does.

True. However, my personal opinion is that for the needs of the average gigging musician, and even a bit above that level, one of the $130 molded SKB cases would more than suffice - like this. Hell, that one's $40 less than the average street price. The OP should go for that one. I've used a few of those, and they're great cases.

Hell, that one's $40 less than the average street price. The OP should go for that one. I've used a few of those, and they're great cases.

This makes sense. But $120 more for a case that touring pros can hop continents with? Not a stretch, if you ask me. No BJ required.

I bought one of those music gear cases and it wouldn't fit my LP at all!

I have an epi case for one LP and an SKB case for the other one.

I like the SKB tremendously, its tougher than heck.

The SKB cases are nice, and for $70 - 100 wel worth it. The Gibby cases are really nice, but probably not that much better at twice the price.

Dont' skimp with the case - avoid the $40 case.

I heartily recommend the SKB one for under $100. Probably one of the best case deals you'll find.

I fully endorse SKB they fit Les Pauls.


Look at it this way, if you get that $40 case, you will end up hating it and buying either the $70 or the $100+ case, then look where you stand now, you just dropped over $100.

In other words, avoid the trouble of buying a crap case, then looking like a fool because now you have to buy another case and spend even more money you than you would of have to.

So what hardshell case does everyone like for their les paul? I'm kind of torn between this


Musicians Gear Deluxe for $40

and this

Silver Creek for $70

but I'm not sure the price would be justified.

I have a couple of the top ones. Solid with no problems but be warned that the neck doesn't really have side support. The tuners on the left side of the head will touch the bottom of the case when it's upright. Obviously, if you slam it to the ground your tuners will come loose.

Can be fixed with a towel around the neck in the right place. I have been flying a guitar with one of those.

Myself I go with high-end gigbags now. Hard cases do no good.

Like the standard LP case from Gibson you will not fit a comfy strap into the storage space and still close it. Fit this into the gear pocket of your standard LP case or the referenced SKB case (http://www.levysleathers.com/product;cat,787;item,654;Padded-Leather-PM31). The SKB isn't water resistant either as I recall. Water is a big deal here for a number of reasons. I also do not have to worry about my kids, and other people's kids and as noted the tarmac hail storm or when the water heater blows, pipe burst or some other water hazard happens that results is a flooded music room.

I spent about $2500 on the LP (it is just a standard). I dropped a bit more change for the pickups and upgraded wiring kit. I have over $3000 in the thing at this point. Why would I even remotely not spend <10% for a case that will protect it?

Check the second link in my post on the first page. It's a waterproof SKB Flight Case for $250 ($224 actually). When you invest your hard earned money on the guitar of your dreams....you can't put a price on protection. You get what you pay for in this case.

I was linked to the waterproofed one for 250 (post 21). The other one being referred to here was not waterproof.
