Les Paul GAS, Studio or Edwards Les Paul

I have some Les Paul Gas and I may be in the market for one. I am kicking around the idea of picking up a Used Studio model or an Edwards. Unless I may come up on a standard or a custom for a VERY reasonable price. What do you folks will give Odie the best bang for the buck?

A classic. Drop a couple of the Lawrence L-500's you love so much in there. They have the best finishes, not the best pickups for the guitar.

Odie.....shop for a used Standard or Classic. You won't be happy unless you have the real deal. I don't know what your budget is, but I see used Standards on eBay all the time for $1300-1500. Studio's are great guitars, but I think you want the whole tamale.

A classic might be a good idea. They seem to go a bit cheaper than standards and customs. Can they be had with an ebony board?

I played a pretty sweet Studio yesterday... it had an orangish copper looking finish on top, black everything else, big fat 50's style neck... very cool.

I don't think they can unfortunately. But if you can live with rosewood, I say by all means go for one. They don't sound as good as the Standards, but that's because ceramic pickups make it sound like mud. Put the right pickups in there and it will be a killer axe. They are well made and like I said have the best finishes. Honeyburst.... mmmm.

Don't Classics come with Gibson 500T pickups? They're pretty high gain already. And they have a thin neck too right?
I'm always wondering why they're cheaper. Ah well... Can't be bad. It seems like a good idea for you. I don't know much about Les Pauls though.

Yeah, 500T/496R combo I think. But the 496 is way too hot in the neck, it's mud. I've always thought Alnico V's are the hottest you can go in a paul in the neck.

I could care less about the pickups because I would ditch them and the 300K pots ASAP!!!! It seems the classic's only come with the 60's neck. That might rule them out for me. Maybe I didnt read something correctly???

Is that the thinner one? I like those better. Being a strat man, I'm used to that thinner neck. Don't like the big bulky neck.

The Studio is no slouch (I had 2 of them), but if I had to do it over again, I'd buy a used Standard. I never looked seriously at the Classic due to the 60's neck and those ugly greenish inlays.

I really liked my Les Paul Studio Limited Edition (Ebony Board). I played and sounded great, but, no that I have a new Standard, there's no going back.

I should also mention that the Edwards look really nice as well (I think they have a long neck tenon if I'm not mistaken), but if resale value is a factor to you, stick with the Gibson.

Can't help much here, I'm not a Les Paul kinda guy. Used to think i was, but it didn't work out for me. I say get the one you like best even if u have to spend a little more dough.

I own both Gibsons and Japanese Les Pauls (Grecos).

If you can deal without the name on the headstock then on average the Edwards smokes anything coming out of Nashville dollar for dollar. Some people NEED to have the name, and that I can understand. But the Japanese have some of the best deals going right now.

If it were me, I'd probably go with the Edwards. They're just on average better made instruments for the dollar.

i have bad edwards GAS!!! almost pulled the trigger on a gold top on ebay last night until i realized the pig was 10.8lbs lol...too much for me so i passed on it. since i own a LP studip and want to won an edwards i can't help much but say...both are great guitars!
