Les Paul Jimmy Page wiring issue

Hello Everyone,

I'm having a bit of an issue with a loaded, Jimmy Page wiring board I bought from Sigler Music. All of the components, pots, interconnected wiring, grounds and resistors came prewired. Worked out amazing and I followed the wiring diagram from Seymour Duncan. No real work except to solder the Alnico II's I bought from SD but I' having an issue. I've double checked the wiring several times now....

Everything functions as it should but the rhythm circuit remains active no matter what position the pickup rocker is in. The tone, volume, push pull pots all work as they should. My suspicion is a faulty rocker but considering the component worked fine before I started, and I barley touched it with the iron, I'm having trouble believing that. Has anyone had this issue before? I included the diagram below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

My guess is that you are correct. It looks like a bad switch. You might try diagnosing it by looking at good, closeup pics online and see if there is anything wrong with yours.

I think first you should write a detailed description of what's going on. How is guitar working in each switch position? Does touching push-pulls change anything? Also include some good quality pictures of your cavity.

All the pots, including the push pulls for series/parallel/split, work perfectly. Tone, volume etc... The only exception is the rhythm/neck pickup which remains active no matter where the rocker is switched. The bridge humbucker cuts when it should on the rocker but not vice versa. The neck pickup is always on.

Like I said, I think it might be the switch but it worked before reassembly and I never touch it with the iron. I resoldered the wires on the opposite side of the rocker. This thing came prewired with the exception of the humbuckers...

I'd say it's probably the switch. Is it standard 3-way toggle?
It should have four plates, each one with lug for soldering wires. Lugs of two middle plates are connected and wire to output jack is soldered there. Two outer plates are connected to volume pots. One to bridge pot and the other to neck pot.
When switch is in the middle position both outer plates touch middle ones. When you move the switch to rhythm or treble position, the plate connected to the pickup that is not selected is disconnected from middle plates.

The reason for strange behaviour of your guitar might be that cable from neck pot touches jack wire/middle lugs/middle plates. Other possible answer is that one of the plates is curved in a way that makes middle and neck plate connected no matter what position the switch is in. Check for these issues and write back. :-)

Gentlemen, a faulty switch it was. I'm baffled as to how it managed to crap out on me when it worked perfectly before the pickup installation. At this point I care not. Thanks for our help!!
