Les Paul Jr vs. Billie Joe sig Jr

There are some fellow forum members that feel the standard $840.00 LP Jr is way over priced, and i do not blame them for thinking so. Afterall, it is a flat piece of plank with no trimmings, and one pick up, so my question is this :

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-Junior-Electric-Guitar?sku=580091 - $840.00 in Satin White

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/...re-Les-Paul-Junior-Electric-Guitar?sku=517324 - $1400.00 in white

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/compare?base_pid=430805&base_pid=517324&base_pid=580091 - an A/B & C'd

Can someone please try and explain to me, why anyone would pay $1400.00 for the white signiture model of pop punk man Billie Joe, if they can have a vintage white model for $840.00

It is the same woods, it is the same screaming P90 pick up, so why pay the extra ?

Why would you want to pay $560.00 MORE for the same thing ?

Talk to me . . .

cause idiots will pay for something relating to Greenday or Billy Joe and if it has BJ's sig on it then half a million girls will get an intense high when they see it, say 'I want it' and get their boyfriends to buy it...

something like that.

but yeah its a captive market, people will buy that crap just cause of a signature.

Re: Les Paul Jr vs. Billie Joe sig Jr

Well for starters the BJLPJ is a CS guitar and those are a cut above no matter what you read on line.

Also, the BJLPJ does NOT have a P90, it has a dual coil H-90 that I think can only be had on the BJLPJ.

The LP JR has the lightening bar bridge vs theh BJLPJ that has the stop style/50's style bar.

The LP JR is finished w/o grain sealer to give a rough raw look and feel, the BJLPJ is sealed and finished in the same way a vintage guitar was.

The LPJR comes in a gig bag the BJLPJ comes in a hardshell case.

Is that worth $560...maybe not but FWIW, I think I'd pay the difference for those features...

WOW, OK so lets see . . .

. . . I prefer the open gain look/feel way more than the sleek finnish, i can get a good SKB HSC for $100.00, and if i do not gell with the bridge, i am sure *Graph Tech can help me out.
And then the biggest "No-No" for me is that JB "Humbucker-like" pu.
Is he going for image here ? Why not drop a regular 'bucker in there ?
It is a CS model, they can make a Humbucker cavity, no problem.

I played both in a shop in Orlando about 6-7 weeks ago, and they felt the same in my hands (weight, dimentions, body thickness) excluding the neck.
Granted, i never plugged either into an amp.

Just my thoughts

Re: Les Paul Jr vs. Billie Joe sig Jr

Taken from another LP Jr thread on this Forum :

" Yeah, but it's also a good example of how insane they are at Gibson. A plain flat top single pickup guitar for 800 - 1000 dollars. That's nuts. Sorry, there's no way you can convince me that any amount of "fit and finish" raises these to more than a 500 dollar guitar. I mean, a bound neck on what supposed to be a stripped down axe? The beauty of them is their simple, no nonsense turn it up and rock attitude. "

Re: Les Paul Jr vs. Billie Joe sig Jr

I'd pay more for the BJ les paul just because of the ebony board. It adds a good amount of definition and clarity, which great if you're going to play heavier stuff with the p90. Not to mention that bends are smoother and ebony feels greats. The BJ Jr. also has the leopard print case interior. The street punk inside me would love to own that case.

I would not buy the BJ Jr. new though. At that price you can easily get a used VOS Jr. for about $300 more.

Edit: I forgot that only the BJ JR. with the ebony board is the classic white model.

FWIW, the standard LP JR in vintage white also comes with an Ebony board...

I'm not saying those changes make it worth the price difference just saying that thats why there is a price difference...

The finish thing alone is several hundred dollars...

As for the pickup thing those H-90's sound nothing liek JB's...so thats out.

I say this, if you want a Jr get one...if the BJLPJ is out of your price range and/or doesn't have th efeatures you want then go with the regular Jr...

Fact of the matter is if I were going to buy a Jr I'd go Historic/VOS which is as much as a standard Jr and a BJLPJ put together...why, I love those guitars, truly a cut above.

Re: Les Paul Jr vs. Billie Joe sig Jr

If the price is the problem then why not buy the Agile version ?
