Les Pauls, Teles, and strats (not super strats). Three designs that look like poopy without pickguards. And yes, poopy is a technical term.

Even LPs with nice wood need pickguards.

With for me...my Classic looks great with the aged white pickguard that matches the binding...

Re: Les Paul Lovers.... with a pickguard or without?

i voted without, they just look so much sexier and sleeker without that ugly peice of plastic on them.

Re: Les Paul Lovers.... with a pickguard or without?

I like mine with the pickguard cause it gives me a surface to rest my fingers if I feel like it. Appearancewise I like seeing a pickguard on guitars, it just gives a different kind of style instead just a finish on the guitar.

Hey there was BeeGees video where Barry had a white LP with gold hardware (I think) and he put two guards on it, like a little flying Vee inside the guitar. I thought it looked totally awesome and then immediately confirmed in my mind that I would never do it.

Without, I think the pickguards get in the way and I'm just not used to them, so I can't stand playing with them (be it LP, Strat, whatever).

Re: Les Paul Lovers.... with a pickguard or without?

I think it looks better with the pickguard, but I'd rather play mine without one. It really gets in the way when I play solos and arpeggios past the 12th fret because I anchor my pinky usually in the spot where the pickguard is and it just gets in the way... which is another reason I don't play my LP much anymore (and that the neck is so damn thick, I don't have have long fingers.)

I take the training wheels off my bikes too.

Actually my last few LP's came "no guard". I hate 'em and those stupid tiny holes they put in beautiful LPs.
Jr's and Specials are OK with guards.

Re: Les Paul Lovers.... with a pickguard or without?

I'm part of the "it depends" crowd. Certainly the top has an influence, but I do like to ancor a coupleof fingers there too. Of course they are "lean and mean" without, yet it is the classic look. 79 has it, Studio has it, Epi doesn't (Birdseye top!), Dean doesn't (Flame), GSX doesn't (For that bashed vibe - and it didn't come with one...when I got it.). I think the next one will....Unless it's a "The Paul" then maybe not!
