My LP shaped hollow-body has no pickguard and I wouldn't consider adding one. To be honest I'm not sure why you're considering adding one to that Tokai or why they even have those small ugly guards in the first place.

Does your other half also think it isn't really a Les Paul because it's a Tokai or because it has P-90s? Because all that considered it still looks very much like a LP to me, and I wouldn't want some cheap white plastic covering that gorgeous FMT.

No he just likes that old school traditional look...where LP's have guards...he got his first Tokai way back in 1983

I like it on a Custom, but generally (and especially if it's a nice flamed and/or sunburst finish), no.

You are all out of your minds, that thing needs a creme pickguard right MEOW!

I think LP's look goofy without them.

That's one of the only drawbacks to having a PRS "Les Paul," I can't really put a pickguard on it

That Tokai looks great as is. The amp and Luke Skywalker x Tauntaun action figure on the shelf are nice also.

Here you go..... I prefer covered with guard for the moment.... and like it with the black bridge pick up the least which is how it is supposed to be as it's a Page lp.

Depends on the LP


Something like a goldtop with the cream guard is just such a classic look that I think it looks weird without it

On the other hand (you've got other fingers) something like a nice burst looks best showing off that beautiful top


Other solid colors its a matter of choice, on my cream colored LP I took it off though it doesn't look half bad with it either. Steve Jones didn't have one and as such I dont

i'd argue that even some solid LP's look bad with that guard on. studios are a great example. MAYBE if you got some nice binding but otherwise no

such a pointless and obtrusive piece of plastic

I tend to prefer having a pickguard on a LP, but I find myself really digging the look of that second picture of some_dude's gold top sans guard. Maybe it has something to do with the P-90s.

Most of the time my answer is yes but if you for example have a Dark Burst with black pickups it looks better without pickguard... actually almost every LP with black pickups looks better without a guard... wonder why?

All down to what you like really, my Tokai std has one and I'm not sure I'd like the look without (that's a tiger stripe maple top), then again our other guitarists Gibson is an almost identicle finish, has no guard and looks great.
One thing I don't get is having a black guitar with a black guard, why?
But Gold tops need them.

After playing tonight I think it will get in the way and annoy me.

Yes and No. I currently have the pickguard on one of my LPs and off the other.

If I had a Les Paul that didn't already have the holes drilled for the pickguard I wouldn't bother putting one on, so I think you made the right decision Lu.
