Les Paul PUP recommendation please

Hi everyone. I recently acquired a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus and I want to replace the PUPs. The previous owner replaced the stock PUPs with Burstbuckers and they are too bright for me. I play pop and classic rock and looking for smooth, warm PUPs that don't produce harsh, brittle high ends.

As a point of reference, I have other LP's with the following PUP combo's (neck/bridge): jazz/JB, 59/Custom V, Gibson 57 Classics. The closest I've come to the sound I'm looking for is the 59/Custom V. But I need a neck PUP that's a little more articulate than the 59 and a bridge PUP warmer than the Custom V. Recommendations are greatly appreciated. Here's a pic of the guitar:

Full Shred in the neck, Duncan Custom in the bridge.

Hmmm- tough call.

At first, I think A2p set.

However - maybe Jazz/A2p is what you really need....

The regular Jazz is comparatively colorless and flabby; A4 will give it more character and warmth while still remaining articulate.

(Weird, looking at that pic makes me think PGs, possibly CC bridge, but that's not the kind of sound you're looking for.)

It's why I suggested the Full Shred in the neck.. I believe that it's a Jazz Neck with hexheads, making it tighter/more articulate.

As for warmer than the Custom 5, that says Custom to me.

Alnico II Pro neck, Pearly Gates bridge?
or A2P and '78 bridge? maybe BroBucker bridge?

Yep, that's the FS neck, alright. Good call!

Hmm, you've got a good point about the Custom... that ceramic magnet scares me, though, after many years of stock pups and Kinman propaganda. lol

Not being familiar with the Full Shred on a personal level - I have heard that it is "articulate" but is that the only tone? I mean, push the eq to treble, and lose bass/mids - sure. You get "articulate" but what do you lose?

and there are a few "custom" reccs. That pup is awfully hot...lot's of highs - and not very poite ones at that. Better than a Distortion - yes. But still....

A2Ps are great.

Also Air Nortons are cool "for smooth, warm PUPs that don't produce harsh, brittle high ends."

He's got a very particular set of specs:

Articulate neck, smooth bridge, and reference points playing classic rock/pop.

That's a PAF style to me - needs something flexible, but classic and low on personality. Nothing extreme.

+1 on Jazz neck/A2P bridge. Smooth, warm bridge, articulate neck. Nothing too heavy, great for classic rock
