les paul special sl

i have seen pictures of these and even seen a few at GC but i have never played one. I would like to have an lp junior but they only make those in the custom shop now, and i will not pay $2000 or more for a junior. How would one of these lp specials with a set of phat cats sound and play verses a newer lp junior?

More versatile, for a start. I've thought about doing the same thing, but I'm waiting until a nice non-custom shop p90 special pops up s/h. Think of your three basic tele tones, only fatter.

Trevor Wilkinson makes a very cool LPS-style guitar, and is marketing it with Tokai. No pics on the web just yet as far as I know.

Cool, Is that a white transparent finish, or sanded back wood?
-Just to clarify, I'm looking at NON-custom shop models.

Re: les paul special sl

Officially it's called TV white, but people also refer to it as White-wash. They apply it a little thin so it has that Mary-Kay transparent look. I really dig it.

I see the non-custom shop models on ebay a couple times a month or so and the usually are in the $750 range and from the mid 90's for production models.

Re: les paul special sl

that is a great looking guitar TC.

So if i would find one of the production model juniors or specials on ebay for a good price would it be a good idea to buy it or were there some quality control issues in the 90's and even in the last few years on these guitars?

Check out the Gibson inventory at Dave's. They sell faded Specials for $600-$700. They also have a good selection of used stuff they don't list. Great store, great service...they'll pick you out a nice one.

Personally, if I were looking and had the coin I'd be all over the Hamer. Primo wood and workmanship, and it fits what you're really looking for which is a Jr. right? With that wraparound and the SD pup, I bet that guitar kills.

He's got an Orville (it's a Gibson) double cut Jr., TV yellow for $1050. Couple of small dings. Jim's a straight shooter. I've bought guitars from him and have been very impressed. He has these guitars at his place in R.I., so no shipping from Japan. Orvilles are excellent quality, especially the early ones like this one.
