Les Paul's Prototype LP is up for Bid

Re: Les Paul's Prototype LP is up for Bid

It will be interesting to see where it ends up! Super cool...

I imagine that guitar will fetch a few shiny pennies. Very cool indeed.

Paging Paul Allen... paging Paul Allen!!! Your next museum acquisition awaits you! (Though you'd think that Gibson would pony-up for this beast!)

Nice. Don't think the contents of my piggy bank are gonna cut it though.

It's funny that Les Paul is almost always seen playing a special Les Paul model with those fugly knobs and low impedance pickups, as if he eschewed attempts to make his signature model an attractive instrument that guitarists would be willing to buy. On the issue of pickups, I wonder if he ever met and/or got along with Seth Lover.

What's comical is that the vast majority of Les' guitar collection were prototypes as he always ripped up guitars and was experimenting. Calling this Les' prototype doesn't really narrow it down. That black beauty is not the special one. The tuxedo white LPs where Les played with low impedance pickups and had the mic inputs that later became the Personal/Professional versions are the ones to have; or even better one of the half dozen 'clunkers' that were acoustic NY Epiphone archtops that were braced with metal and wired with Les' hand-wound pickups.
