Because it isn't the name on the headstock that counts, it's the combination of certain body woods, dimensions, hardware options, and pickups.

Agreed!
The formula.

Mahogany neck.
Mahogany body.(thick)
Carved maple top.
Rosewood fretboard.
22 frets.
24 3/4 scale.
2 humbuckers.
TOM bridge and tail piece.
Thin finish. (Nitro or Acrylic lacquers. Many new Polys can be applied just about as thin these days. So that Nitro vs Poly gap is narrowing)

Many companies are producing fine quality guitars with these features. Plus, their own spins on it. So, Gibson isn't the only choice anymore.
Youi have a lot more choice, and ability to find something more to your own preference.

sorry ive been busy today to keep up on the post..but..as far as gibson goes its like a poster said earlier..buisness ethics..plus im more of a find a small company thats better than the big company because they deserve it kind of person :)

Godin, Heritage, Hamer, Tokai, and any of the other companies mentioned here would be great. I like godins. I've only played a few each of heritage, hamer, and tokai, but they all make great guitars. The neck on the heritage was a bit strange though.....
