Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

Specifically the studio edition. I am thinking about picking one of these up now that I am finally getting out of the apartment life and getting my own place. Im pretty sure that none of the retailers around here carry them, and I wanted to get an idea of how they sound.

If you have played a Mesa F30 could you compare them, because I have played one of those and I liked the tone, but they are a little expensive for my taste.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

I played the head version of the Windsor. It sounds pretty good, but I wish it was 50 watts. It had that Marshall vibe to it but it had more gain than any Marshall I ever played and it was overly bright or something. It did crunch good though and for the price it is excellent. The single channel is more versatile than people think. That being said, I haven't played the Windsor combo or an F30.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

I played the halfstack. Solid amp for the money it costs...if I needed a British-style head and didn't wanna shell out for the Orange i like i'd be happy with a Windsor.

Peavey stuff is solid man. The head is built well on the outside. I'd trust it.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

i played one and it sounded good turned up...

but the plastic mounted jacks and pots and the fact that guitar center said the first two they recieved just didnt power on scares me...

also i might go for the epiphone so-cal instead...

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

You're worried about the Windsor so you want to get a So Cal? Sound like a downgrade to me.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

Epiphone's Chinese build quality owns Peavey...

now if it was a 6505 then i would bow to it.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

The Windsor is very sturdy on the outside. I really wouldn't worry about a Peavey. My Classic 30 is a tank. It is MIA though.

Re: Let me know about the Peavey Windsor

I think it's cheap and sounds cheap. My philosophy is that you get what you pay for. Some people actually like them, but if you like the sound get it and break it in quick.

Yes, you do get what you pay for. It sounds MUCH thinner than the Marshalls it is modeled after. For the price though, there isn't really anything that compares. If I thought the Windsor was really great, I'd take that over this JMP 2204 I want.
