Re: Let The Battle Begin!
Depends on the song, but I prefer a pick (thick Dunlop Delrin). My fingerstyle is inconsistent, and I catch my index nail on the upstroke too often, resulting in a tone that is suddenly out of place with the rest of the track. To correct that, I end up using the side of my index finger on the upstroke, which results in a more mellow tone that what I was aiming for to begin with, so then I just go right back to the pick.
I do strike the strings as flat as I can, because that "shick" sound of an angled pick across bass strings is annoying. My bass picking style is actually more of a slap-with-the-pick rather than drag-across-the-string. I hit it at such an angle as to bounce the string off the neck, rather than set it in motion with a glancing blow. I find that cuts out the pick click for me.
