Re: Let The Battle Begin!

Definitely fingers for bass. I also prefer using my fingers when playing slide on guiter

Re: Let The Battle Begin!

I use both–on guitar and bass. I have all sorts of picks, from wood to metal to fiberglass to plastic to nylon to etc...

Re: Let The Battle Begin!

Fingers, but for one song I HAD to use a pick. It was just too hard to play clearly with my current skill level. I use my index and middle finger, doing only upstrokes and it has more of a percussive and sharper sound, but not as sharp as a pick.

Re: Let The Battle Begin!

Depends on the song, but I prefer a pick (thick Dunlop Delrin). My fingerstyle is inconsistent, and I catch my index nail on the upstroke too often, resulting in a tone that is suddenly out of place with the rest of the track. To correct that, I end up using the side of my index finger on the upstroke, which results in a more mellow tone that what I was aiming for to begin with, so then I just go right back to the pick.

I do strike the strings as flat as I can, because that "shick" sound of an angled pick across bass strings is annoying. My bass picking style is actually more of a slap-with-the-pick rather than drag-across-the-string. I hit it at such an angle as to bounce the string off the neck, rather than set it in motion with a glancing blow. I find that cuts out the pick click for me.

Re: Let The Battle Begin!

Since Im learning, I switch it up. I try to use "proper" technique with fingers. But since I like alot of heavier music, I break out a pick a bit too

Re: Let The Battle Begin!

I said fingers but it really always depended on what kind of music I was playing. If it was heavier rock or anything with a grunge/punk influence, I almost always used a pick. For something that needed more of a blend, I'd go with fingers.

Zombie thread alert!

I stand by my previous assertion. In my opinion, Funkplectrums wouldn't have the same ring about it.
