lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Fight For Your Right - Beastie Boys --- hahahaha, the solo is so ****ty, and has the worst tone i've heard in my life ! ; )

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

We're not gonna take it - Twisted Sister - Sounds too much like a Christmas Carol

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

I hate to say this, but the the solos Mick Ronson played in "White Light,White Heat" in Bowies Ziggy Stardust Live movie are horrendous. Completely out of key and sloppy as hell - TWICE!!!!
Sorry Mick!
And a solo I played on a Blacksmith Hopkins track a few years ago called "Cold Heart". Ooooh it SUCKED!!! :smack:
Fortunately a bloke called Chris Wilson blew harp all over it and saved my butt.

Cheers,PJ

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

The solo to "All You Need Is Love" sounds dinky, is awkward, and ends abrubtly.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

I feel you on that call Christian. As far as his tone, it almost seems to be a parody of itself anymore. He sounds like whatever his 'preset' would be on a digitech RP box.

And he can be pretty cool when he just rips, but when he is trying to be 'Slash the melodic blues rock guy', it just all sounds the same. Kind of like a target note blues lesson book solo.

Wow! Im surprised anybody agreed with that to be honest!

I'm sure Slash has skills but I think I've yet to realy hear them to be honest...

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Hey, you're talking about one of my heroes; he didn't run out of gas until later.

HA!

Page started running out of gas around...say 1969! The solo on Heartbreaker, while was great in terms of note choice was so poorly played it alone earns Page a nod in the worst solo catagory...sad part is it only went further down hill from there!

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

The bass fill that Guy Pratt plays on the live Delicate Sound of Thunder version of "Another Brick in the Wall pt.2". Why oh why did they chose him? Roger's playing, while never overly technical, was perfect for Floyd. Then this idiot comes in and slaps all over classic Floyd tunes. Yeah, awesome!

EDIT - Some idiot LIKES it on Youtube! Link Skip to 3:334, unfortunately you miss Dave's solo if you do that.

It might have been a little over the top but I quite like Guy's playing to be honest...

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

there is this kid pat who comes to my blues jam. its bad. metal zone and a boss compressor with the sustain turned all the way up. cant play in key, cant play in time and plays alot of notes very loudly. i would gladly welcome a cc deville disaster compared to this kid (who thinks he is pretty good to boot)

God I know what you mean. That freshman snot who hurt my baby was one of those.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister. (Proves without a doubt that you don't need great chops to have a hit song that plays on the radio or MTV a 1,000,000 times a year).

Anything by Neil Young (Great signer/songwriter but should never attempt a solo).

5 Days In May by Blue Rodeo (Great song by a great band but with a really bad solo that weirdly fit the song perfectly. And I wouldn't change a single note for some inexplicable reason).

Another out-of-key solo, Randy Bachman on "Taking Care of Business." Why release a studio recording with an instrument clearly out of tune; not like the guitar work was that great that he couldn't redo it. Baffling.

But I've never heard anyone else play that style. Mistakes and all, it's still a landmark solo. I'd much rather listen to early Jimmy than any shredder that plays repetitive scales flawlessly. Give me the human element, warts and all.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

It hurts to say it but J. Hendrix Purple Haze has one of the most horrible solos ever.:28::28::28::28:

That was 1967; look at other solos from that year. Jimi was way out in front. As the bar was raised, Jimi kept pace.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Here's a bad one -- Buddy Holly - Peggie Sue... ;)

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

I like a lot of Neil Young solos. Not all of them are the same, for instance, the whole On the Beach album has pretty decent stuff, especially the song of the same name.

Yeah, I was thinking for a while about your post. I actually like Slash's tone and his phrasing, but it did become, like Aceman put it, a preset. It's the same on all of his albums and it doesn't work on a lot of songs.

My biggest problem with the guy is that he didn't really develop in any direction since the 1st GNR album...

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

What's up with that? Did he peak early?

Maybe he just found his niche. He was invited to so many guest appearances during his career, asked to do his own thing on records or shows that he has probably decided that it's good to stay with the same signature look, tone and phrases.

Can't say there was a lot of innovation, or experimentation, in his career. Just the branded pose and branded tone. Very nice tone though... :friday:
