Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

The P-rails is still in the Jazzmaster, which is now at my band's drummers house. He bought it from me but in reality he never plays it, I do when I drive down and jam. I am planning on taking the duncan out.

we have used the guitar for rehearsals and recording.

Let me know if it ever shows up in a recording!

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

A local jazz guitarist has his Parker Fly (don't know if it's legitimate) carved to the bone. And yes, the pickups by any chance are SD!

K I'll bite.

This here is my Harper Custom superstrat. Purchased off of eBay for ~$750. Sapele/bloodwood laminate throughout body and neck, oiled, unfinished.

When I got it, the guitar was in rough shape. It was downtuned to like...B standard and had 11 gauge strings on it. Worse, the idiot drilled a hole for a second pot, but stuck it unusably close to the toggle. Tracked down the builder of the guitar, some 18 y.o. kid from Virginia and had him fill in the hole for me.

Football style jackplate with extended jack port.

Had 4 springs. Now tuned to E standard with 9's (Rotosound Pinks - my favorite!) sans 2 springs. Previous owner had trem cavity cover installed. Had removed. Holes filled.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

Ok, time to show you my special strat, Sunrise.

Named sunrise because of the finish.

I have a picture which is pre heavy modification, so the first pic is when the guitar was fitted with wilkinson pups, I don't have a photo of the pure original guitar, which I kind of regret.

The second picture is of it in its current state.

- all Ibanez pickups ( saving for duncans for this one)
- Strat Vintage Style bent steel saddles,
- Tort Pickguard,
- Five springs put in the back, now non floating trem, but sounds better for it!
- modified wiring, Normal five way switch Plus 3 mini toggles. Bottom most toggle is 'Bridge on' to allow all three pickups to be on or just the bridge and neck, Switch 2 is Bridge phase, upper most switch is neck phase. can produce some interesting results. the phase is handy for certain songs when I need t thinner and brighter tone.

this one may have the wiring re done again to be series Parralel, but this depends on what pickups go in it.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

My number one.... Squier Classic Vibe 50s. Lake Placid Blue. 59s. Master Vol/Tone. Changed everything except the tuners and nut. When I have more money I will change the nut, the tuners are pretty good.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

I think I'm guilty of the same thing here many of you hwere in thsi thread are that I6 pointed out. Most of my "modded" guitars really arent heavily modified in that they still look originaL WITH SOME BASIC QUALITY UPGRADES.
i THINK MY sQUIER 51 COUKD BE POSTED HERE, AND THATS ABOUT IT.(sorry for the caps)

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

I'm diggin this guitar a lot man. It looks like a no nonsense, true players axe that has some really good humbucker tone. I'd say since the pickup configuration was totally changed, that it is a "heavily modified " guitar.( lose the white knobs though-black all the way. Who put those stupid stripes on there?)

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

I've posted this one a few times before, but once more can't hurt.

Started as a used Ibanez RG1XXV

Added the following:

-Dimarzio Tone Zone in bridge
-Dimarzio Area 67 in middle
-Dimarzio Liquifire in the neck
-Dimarzio Pickup selector switch tip
-Dimarzio neon pink clip-lok strap
-Green volume/tone knobs from Mojotone.com

Not the most heavily modded, but it looks a lot cooler to me!

Thanks for the love guys! This guitar has always played well but I was never satisfied with the tone. I even tried different HBs before the Antiquitys! Once i got the Ants in and dialed in what pots worked, the tone became God-like!

As for the stripes... heh, heh... well they're covering up where I used to have a different sticker that said "Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics." I was 14, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. When i removed it, it looked empty and you could see where the sticker was from the right vantage point. So I like 'em but at some point they will probably be removed.

As for the white knobs, those are in the trial period. I had Tele Deluxe ones before and wanted to try something new. Hey it's cheap and easy, so why not?

thats kill! the tilted string guide on the headstock looks better than when they are straight and looks more practical. that back cavity is awesome with the thumb cutout. How does it fasten?

It kinda just mushes in there kinda like a sewer cap. The wood is soft enough that it forms a tight seal around the cover.

Yeah I dig the string guide too. It gives the bass strings a lot more vibration. I use a lot of vibrato on the bottom 3 strings.

The guitar has been through 4 sets of pickups:
1. GFS Lil Killer + JB
2. DiMarzio SDS-1 + Megadrive
3. DiMarzio Pro Track + Duncan Custom Custom
4. DiMarzio Chopper + Dunca Distortion

The current set is definitely my favorite.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

Well...my 05 Highway One Telecaster has been modded from one end to the other...pulled the ping tuners and installed a set of Klusons and conversion bushings, swapped the AS string tree for a round vintage one, new guard plate, strap locks, upgraded the electronics and put in a set of Custom Shop SD pickups...the 53 Tapped Tele JB Guitar Shop set along with the 5 way switch Seymour suggests.

Fender HW1 Telecaster, highly modded, loaded with Custom Shop Duncans:

My 07 Melody Maker has quite a bit going on as well...Klusons swapped for Grovers, original pickup swapped for a dog ear P-90, new custom guardplate, jack moved to the side, custom CTS/DiMarzio pots, NOS Leo Quan BadAss tailpiece and a set of Bigsby Palm Pedals

Last is my 67 ES-335...while she looks like a standard ES-335 she's far from it. Started life as a 12 string, "converted" to a 6 string, several headstock breaks and then the neck twisted...I sent her to Brian Monty and he hand crafted an entire new neck from old mahogany, re attached the original fingerboard and then painted the neck to match...not modded in the sence or hot rodded but modded in the since of getting back to what it shoudl be in a stock form...I did add the Bigsby because I hate trap tail 335's and i liek Bigsbys...I think that she qualifies as heavily modded!

Started off life (as it came to me) like this:

Now it looks like this:

Too lazy to take a good picture.

I'm going to change the bridge at some point - probably slap a black Super Vee Bladerunner on it. It's a ****ing amazing guitar.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

Here's my 1997 Ibanez JS100 (A.K.A. Alien) I consider this my first real guitar and the platform where I shaped my current sound or like some people like to say, guinea pig. It now has reached it's semi final stage: Seymour Duncan TB12 Screamin' Demon at the bridge, DiMarzio Chopper at the neck with a humbucker to single coil conversion slanted pickup ring, Push-Pull tone knob to split coils, push pull in the volume for a high pass filter (Filter activated when down, de-activated when up) and it's awaiting an Ibanez Edge bridge swap and a fret dressing...
