Let's see your rare guitars!

They're out there: let's see 'em! Do you have a rare guitar? A prototype? An employee guitar? An artist's personal axe? A guitar with an unusual finish that isn't listed in catalogs?

Here's mine: a 2012 Buddy Blaze seven-string prototype. This model is now known as the 'Sevenator.' If you were at Winter NAMM last year you might have seen it there. It has a poplar body, ebony fretboard, maple neck, seven-sided position marker dots, Original Floyd Rose 7, and the neck pocket is angled to allow the trem to float without the need for back-routing. Buddy built this with DiMarzio Crunch Lab and LiquiFire pickups but it now has a Full Shred and a '59, both hooked up to a push-pull pot for coil splitting.

A mint 89 Gibson Les Paul Custom 35th Anniversary 3 pickup model. Worth around $6K. I really would make this a main player because it's killer sounding and plays like a dream, but it's an occasional ride. Too valuable to mess it up. I have a Brobucker B, 57n, Brobucker N in it. It came with all 57's.

The 2008 SG Diablo has a cool back story. By coincidence, I bought it on the day Ronnie James Dio died, and I went to his Memorial at Burbank Forest Lawn 2 weeks later. The SG was the guitar behind his voice in Black Sabbath. It's the February guitar, which is my birth month, and 2008 was the year I got married. All these things, along with the fact it's the best SG ever made, make it very special to me. This guitar IS designated as a main player. This guitar will be well worn by the time I kick the bucket.

This Guitar a Reynolds came originally with single coils and had green Metallic finish. I had to refinish it as the two piece body wood was splitting a the joint Nothing on it is stock except for the body and neck, and neck base plate. But here we go. At some point I am going to make this a Single pickup guitar. But here it is for now. It is Rechristened JFG The FLYING DOVE.

It's an Oz fest so far; didn't know you were a member here, Pete.

I don't know the precise nature of the rarity of my Ibz PL (production numbers do exist), but they don't come up often, and this particular model is the most common of them. Well, for a run of the mill production guitar, it wasn't made in significant numbers.

Even though there were quite a bit of Baretta's made in the 80's, even with graphics, I have yet to find another one with this same paint scheme. I bought this one in the mid-90's for next to nothing and plan on keeping it, eventually handing it down to one of my daughters. I'm not sure of the value now but I have a feeling it's more than what it was pre-9/11.

Here is my Wayne guitars one of a kind that was built for UK Guitarist of the year Dave Kilminster. Dave is a monster player who has toured with Roger Waters and played regularly with Guthrie Govan. This guitar is simply awesome to play, it feels alive and very responsive. The neck is birds eye maple ala EB EVH but slightly wider at the nut which makes for a near perfect neck profile for me at least.


Not really sure how many were made but here's my PRS ME, although I only have just a few guitars left now, this is just my ultimate guitar. And due to the Brazilian neck and board, Honduran mahogany back and flamed maple top, one can only assume that they will become somewhat scarce and rare in the not to distant future. This one however is a player and gets put to good use.....

How long ago did you pick up that Wayne? I saw Roger Waters "The Wall" on tour a couple years ago and Dave was playing a guitar just like that. I don't know if it's the same one but curious if it is. He is a great player and did all of the leads total justice. Amazing tone too.

I doubt if it is as he had a Suhr that looked very similar. The story goes that Dave had the guitar custom built through Chandlers and they got the spec slightly wrong and wouldn't help in getting things sorted out. Dave did use the guitar whilst doing work for some of the guitar mags but got a deal with Suhr and sold the Wayne.

My 1994 Robin Medley. Was built for NAMM that year was more to show what the custom shop could do. The top is a single slab of 3/8ths inch thick maple. Not bookmatched its one piece. Only a very few single slab guitars were made and none other with this combination of features. It was even used on the catalog cover sorry for the lame picture but its the only one i could find its on the upper left.








This is my BC Rich Warlock on the back inlaid in the paint it has the name "Kelly O" no clue who it was for. The head stock shape are those of an NJ but it has Made in USA on the back of the headstock but no serial number. Was told by Neil Moser that this isnt such an oddity as custom done guitars at the time they would have pulled a neck off the production line before it was stamped with a number. But it still has an odd set of features mostly the inlays and headstock shape. I would actually love it if I could get better confirmation on what this guitar is or where it came from if anyone knows for sure.




This guitar is a one off built for me by a luthier named Lynn Wheelright in Roy Utah. Its a collection of features that at the time I decided I just HAD to have that I couldnt find in a stock guitar. While rare its not particularly valuable (but priceless to me) you probably would never see another one built by him let alone one that has this set of features.

My '05 EMBB Silhouette Special is a limited edition run color called Gunsmoke Pearl, also called Gunsmoke Silver by others. I've only ever seen one other EBMM instrument in this color.

Hey Erik, I'm pretty sure that Dennis Kline did the paint job on your guitar. I'm sure you've seen me writing about it, but he was my cousin's best friend and the guitar in my avatar is the very first guitar painting he ever did.

I have an actual Les Paul guitar. It's a 1948 Epiphone Blackstone that was actually owned by Les Paul. (Purchased through the auction of Les Paul's estate in 2012) Those are Les' handwritten notes on the side of the case.

Awesome goodness indeed, I don't think they wa all made in germany. I think mine was made in the eko factory by greasy Italians.
