I like the tone of the 36th but it can tend to be a little muddy/sloppy when playing lower positions on the neck.

You need to lower the p'up a little bit. Start with a whole turn in the 6th string and half turn on the 1st string. Then continue with 1/4 turn on each side until the mud goes away.

Don't merely lower the pickup -- lower it and raise the screws. This will thin the tone out a bit. However, if the mud is really bad, chances are that will only get you part way there. Does it have a cover? Remove that and it will also help a lot. It comes with an A5 mag, which typically chubs up any neck humbucker which can be good or bad, depending on your starting point. I would swap in an A3, it's got more air and chime and less warmth than A2.

If none of that works, it's probably just an overpotted pickup on top of a likely not so stellar wind pattern which may necessitate a transplant...

Ok, I’ll play with the screws as well.
I really don’t want to remove the cover...I like how it looks. Most of the mud is below the 5th fret E and A strings.
I like its tone, I’m just looking to clean it up a bit.
Earlier in this thread, it was mentioned that the magnets may be glued in...do you know offhand if that is the case here?


I also have a Neck BKP Rebel Yell on hand...that could go back in too...

Rebel Yell neck is probably my favorite BareKnuckle. It's a great pickup.

I did what you said this past weekend. I nudged the pickup height down a little (it was already low to begin with but there is still room to go more) and I raised the screws a little on the low E and A strings.
It helped quite a bit! I hadn’t considered adjusting he screws until you mentioned it. Thanks man!!
