Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

Wow! This is some really tasty music, great playing and great tone.. Nice stuff, thanks for sharing. :)

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

VERY NICE LEW !!!! :beerchug:

I've got a cd of Etta James "Love's Been Rough On Me".....sounds A LOT like this.

Brent Mason tears it up on that disc....Lew, I'd love to hear more of you guys on YOUR disc :D

Let us know when it comes out :bigthumb:

She looks as good as her voice sounds.

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

i agree about recording all at once, lew ... i insisted that we do our demo like that .... only thing we did later was 1-take vocals, and i overdubbed a guitar solo ... warts and all, i love that our demo sounds exactly like us ... not some attempt at 'perfecting' us ... there are one or two times when we rush and lose the pocket ... i sing a coupla croaker notes ... there is at least one clam per solo ... but it is very real and alive to my ears

you guys did the same (without the warts :) ) and it shows

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

And this gentlemen, is an example what happens when you grow up playing without Pro-tools and other cut and paste steroids for recordings. Awesome stuff Lew. I was just hoping that you would let loose a bit more with some drive in the pre-amp and some treble booster infrong, you know you want to! Wait, this is also a record of sorts isnt it? Now Lew is the oldest clip posting member isnt he?

Oooooh! Don't remind me. I'll be 58 next week!

What's that saying? "If I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself!" (laugh!)

I really appreciate all of the positive feedback from everyone.

I wish I had speakers on my computer so I could hear some of the clips others have posted here - I'm going to have to remedy that.

As for more overdrive, I originally brought my Les Paul into the studio and hoped to use it. I did a few passes with the Les Paul, but it gave the tune to much of a ripping Billy Gibbons or Gary Moore kind of tone.

Maybe next time.

Sherrie and I are going back into the studio next Wednesday and I'll try to get another cut or two up in a couple of weeks...if Ryan's willing to help host it.

I'm really ignorant about computer stuff and MP3 technology.

Thanks again guys!

Lew

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

Wow, great song! Can you tell me what position your Strat's switch was in for the rhythm & lead parts?

Thanks! If I remember right, it's mostly all on the neck pickup. Maybe some of the rhythm with the neck and middle pickup combined. It's those Antiquity Surfers I keep mentioning here on the forum. I think they're the best Strat pickups I've ever used. I rarely play my real '63 Strat anymore because I like the tone of the Antiquity Surfers even more.

Not that she sounds like her either, but Sherrie's a big Billie Holiday fan. Sometimes I hear some of Billie Holiday's phrasing and note choices in Sherrie's singing...especially when she sings jazz. I think jazz is what Sherrie feels she sings best, but I like everything she does. She can cover it all, and do it all in her own style. So how do you like this cut Bruce? Is this the first time you've heard it? Lew

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

Nice tasteful playing and a beautiful tone to go with it...I tip my hat to you.

I wish the vocal was slightly lower in the mix...I thought the guitar parts were a little buried.

Thanks! The guitar fills were intentionally low in the mix. I liked the atmosphere. I was going for a little mystery there and didn't want them to be be to up front. Also, the cut sounds differant on a good home stereo or car stereo than it does on little computer speakers. I'm looking for some good computer speakers now for that reason. Thanks again! Lew

I need to hook up some better ones myself. :)

This is very true. I first listened to this in a physics lab with stock mac speakers and felt that the vocals were overpowering. I'm now listening to it with my headphone amp and Sennheiser HD580s and it sounds much better/balanced. I think the difference is that I can hear the dynamics of the vocals better; she seems to have a lot more quiet parts that allow the rest of the instruments through than my first listen.

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

Thanks Guys! I was a little nervous about posting my playing what with so many great players here on the forum and all.

What are you saying,;) that was amazing!!!!!! I always liked blues (it's what my playing comes from) and stuff like that. Really really great!!!

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

Great stuff, Lew!

-I could just imagine you laying down some great stuff with a B3/Rhodes player.

Got any tele/tweed deluxe stuff in the can?

Re: Lew's first clip post!!!

We now have our five song CD ready. Three acoustic tunes and two electric.

I'll try to get some cuts from it up here in the next week or so.

Thanks! Lew
