I'm getting a light soldered Double Cream 59 from John @ Black Rose Customs. At the moment I am going to leave it covered. Should I solder the cover on better or will it be alright? Thanks in advance.
Never heard of "lightly soldered" but I do stock some that are unsoldered. Unsoldered covers are meant to be removed to show off the "custom color" coils and if left on will make the pickup howl like a banshee at "rock and roll volumes". Lew
If you're going double cream, you should probably seriously consider going nude to show them off. The term "lightly soldered" is used very lightly. They slip the cover on the pickup, then show the solder gun to it....that's it. It will slip right off.
If you need to pot it, we've got a tutorial hanging around here somewhere that will walk you through it. It only takes a few minutes, and then some drying time.
I have a wanted in the Trading post for a double cream/with clasic cover custom. If I get one I'll definitely show them off. Then if I get bored with the look I can always put the covers on for a while. Might look alright with a zebra too.
May try it with the cover on for a while and see what happens. Then when I get a double cream for the bridge I can remove both covers and see. Pretty undecided at this point.
