...yo! Just to quell debate in the other thread, I guess after reading again Pinto is talking to Evan or something which as far as I'm concerned isn't a guarantee in the least but...

Making this a public poll... So no new accounts :D

Humbucker sized?

or

Single coil sized?

The pickup need not SOUND like whatever it is, I guess we'll debate that later. But after two custom humbuckers, let's see if anyone is in favor of just going to a different format. Because we all have different sized holes ;)

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

IIRC last time poll-o-thon's first poll was exactly that, if what came to be the Crazy 8 should be a humbucker or a SC. That along with where it should be for (bridge) were the only polls where the results were clear.

In any case, even though I think this is way too freekin' soon count me for a blank vote i.e. I'd be willing to go with whichever the rest will want to go with...

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

Dangles, after hearing about your various, erm, exploits, I don't really want to hear about your various holes. :laugh2:

That said, Single Coil for sure. I've got single coils in all of the guitars I play, and only one humbucker in the 5 guitars I play (my strat has humbuckers, but as soon as I get Surfers in there it'll get more playtime).

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

...for some reason I didn't anticipate the "indifferent" vote that would have helped count total interest. I think that's a small contingent anyway.

In case you totally can't tell, I tried to sort of push the idea that the first two pickups have been buckers, even though I'm sure anyone who wants a bucker NOW won't care :D

Honestly I'm not even sure that I want/need another pup right now (that'll piss people off), but I GUESS if it's SC sized... but lets see.

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

The thing is I DO need both an 80s style bridge bucker AND a good sweet neck SC.
Those two would be my next ventures after the new amp, so since I NEED both, I can't properly decide which I'd want more.

But, from a fairness point of view I guess it would be prime time for a SC...

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

Don't know if we initiate these special runs or if Evan (or someone else back at the ranch) does HOWEVER, I'm up for a SC if one should come to pass. I voted accordingly.

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

I am with Benji a tele bridge pup... but I am game for a nice single coil too.

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

We have enough Humbuckers avalaible roght now, between regular Sd's and the custom shop ones !!

Let's create ths ultimate STRAT pickup ^^

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

...this thread is about to die, maybe that means there's not enough interest in the first place :laugh2:

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

Humbucker! Axl get's a great 80s tone, but you can never have too many 80s buckers :D

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

Too many pretenders?

Honestly, for me it was the best music but there were just too many posers, too many cloning each other and even themselves. I mean, each one of those guys must have had 3-4 songs about love and chicks on each record they made. There is a limit to how much you can use a certain subject before it's dried up...

What I'm saying is that there was very good stuff but buried among all that it was difficult to find...

Re: (likely unlikely) New Forum Pup specs!!! HB/SC?

Dude, if you can't get a good 80's tone from the current offering of production line 'buckers, there's something seriously wrong with you.

Sí señor Benjy. I definitely agree with this, good point. Especially since many of the very same pickups were used with the poodle bands of that thankfully bygone era. Now really though, in the end, a lot of people don't know how to make use of what they have. For example, adjusting an amp's EQ instead of relying on a pickup to totally form your desired sound. It is a part of the major equation, fer sure (and very talented people who have a certain ability, touch, knowledge, and care in what they do and/or make CAN & DO add some additional Mojo to the mix more than others), but how you interact with it is more so going to influence the end result heard. One more example; Adjusting p-up height. Don't go by measurments, go by your own ear, and tonal tastes. Get to know your equipment instead of wiring something up and simply wishing for the best, then getting discouraged at something that could be manipulated, or tweaked here & there.

If you want something that isn't readily available, don't be afraid to pamper your tools. Utilize the SD Custom Shop for your own needs instead of waiting for group decisions, and polls. All of that said, I believe that it would behoove the Forum to work on a Single Coil next go round.

*"poodle bands" BTW, I'm not knocking anyone who likes to wear their hair long, or happens to even have curly hair (you got what you got). I mean there was a time when I wore my hair midway down my back, well past the shoulder blades. If that's what one likes then that's cool, by all means, grow it. I am; however, taking a jestful jab at the Big Hair era of Rock, while not being too pretentious about it.

:biglaugh::cool3:

I understand Danglybanger, and I know you do. Plus, some people really have no clue what can be coaxed out of a single coil when you really try. They can cover a wide variety of music, and tones.

;)

Many guitarists want to be someone else instead of themselves. If something has been done, why duplicate it?
