"Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Hey everybody and I welcome myself to the forum.....
Oh and Happy and creative New Year to all of you....

Now,
I have been playing guitar for 25 years. I play blues (Stevie Ray, Jimi, Fabulous etc), hard rock (Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Uli Roth, some Yngwie etc)

Some years ago i did something by accident that turned out to be great for the sound I'm looking for in the BRIDGE position. I have put a NECK "Lil' 59" on the bridge position of me strat. Without raising the output dramatically it gave me exactly what I need. More bite and got rid of the annoying treble of the single, but still sounds good for strat sounds.
Ok we got this covered. Now I'm looking to the same with the neck. Now I have Dimarzio's HS 3 (Yngwie thinking) but although my strat sounds are there, somehow on drive situations it's not ....."enough".
I was thinking of putting another "Lil' 59" neck on the neck position but I'm afraid to lose that "chunk" for my blues. I don't want my strat to sound like Gibson AT ALL (nothing against LPs, I own a 1978 LP custom).
Should I go for the "Lil 59"?
Any other suggestions?
Thanx for your time

Try a Lace Sensor LIGHT BLUE (not the blue...). I did it and i am very happy!

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Since you have a Lil 59-neck, try shifting it over to the neck position to see how you like it. Also, what a re you using in the middle?

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Money isn't an issue (when it comes to the quest of the tone) just not somethng insane, however (somehow) clean cleans are. My middle is a tonerider single coil.
I think that the "classic stack plus" is really an HS3 wich I already have and I wanna get away from this sound

Οk but, I'll need an "extra something" than a 50's with just a little more, more "meat" or something. Hard to explain, anyway.

Weird, i just posted in another thread about the Lil 59 Neck pickup that we both tried the same thing (installing a lil 59 NECK into the bridge position) and I have a different take on it than you did. I went through my pickup stash and wanted to try the Lil 59 in a cheapo strat mainly for more chunk but I didn't realize it was a NECK lil 59 and I wanted to install it in the bridge. Well I will say it was awfully bright and this was even the case with 250k pots and the fact that the mounting screws fell out of the pickup so the lil 59 was sitting almost below the pickguard. I figured that far away it would be dull and generic sounding but bright was not something I was expecting (even considering a neck pickup in the bridge generally brightens the tone up a bit).

Maybe it was weird in parallel? Mine is connected as a real humbucker
Mine is not "bright", just "meaty". Have in mind that I DON'T like much trebles AT ALL

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Maybe a Cool Rails? That strikes a balance between humbucker fullness and single coil clarity.

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

IME, the lil 59 sounds overly boomy and flabby in the neck. It had a lot of mud for single sized bucker.

That's why I'm thinking of putting something else for neck position. For bridge ofn my strat the neck Lil59 is perfect, gives more punch and meat but taking tha same pickup on neck (where it belongs) I'm affraid to mess things.
That's why I'm leaning towards Lace Light Blue.
Any more on this pup (or something else)?

Thanx everybody so far for your advice an time

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

I should mention though, that I hardly EVER play dead clean. I almost always, especially when soloing, play with overdrive, sometimes less, sometimes more, sometimes A LOT more ;D

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

I think you'd probably like the Dimarzio Air Norton S. I never found it to get muddy or harsh, but has a rather nice warm tubular sound to. Has a nice hollow thunk to it when it's split on it's on and quacks rather well for the notch position. But still having some nice girth to it w/ a smooth top end full on. You will might have some phase issues if you have a duncan in the middle, or planning on adding a bridge on switch to have the bridge+neck or all 3 pickups on at once.

Not wired in parallel, but it will be coming out in favor of the Stra-bro 90 once it arrives here, hopefully soon. Mine is bright and I also can't stand too much ice pick thin treble in the bridge but then again I'm not a big fan of flubby muddy pickups either.

Have you compared it to the Chopper or Fast Track II? I have a Chopper T in a tele and while it was an improvement over the stock tele bridge it was way too thin and the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails kicked it's ass in every way.

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Can't compare it to the chopper or the FTII. Never used them. I like the full size air norton so I tried the ANS in a strat and really dug it. The only duncan single size buckers I can compare it to is the lil 59, cool rails, and vintage rails and it trumps them all by a long shot.

On that end of it, I've never found a single size Dimarzio that I do like in the bridge spot. I find that the hot rails, lil screamin demon, and lil 59 suit my playing better in the bridge. Horses for courses I guess lol!

Re: "Lil' 59" on Strat's neck position?

Never tried the light blue, but the blue red silver set they sell is pretty sweet. Good luck and hope you dig it!
