Line 6 M9 question

So today I tried out an Rp500. The only issue I had with it was a lack of any sort of volume boost function. Like, the highest you can have a "heel down" value for the volume expression is the same volume of having the pedal bypassed. Basicallly, it doesn't increase the volume. I was wondering if the Line 6 M9 could do this, whether through the "volume pedal" or any other model.

Also, do I actually need a separate expression pedal to use the "volume pedal"? Sounds kind of dumb, but I just want it clarified.

You don't need an expression pedal to use the volume pedal, but it will act as a preset volume. The volume pedal itself isn't a boost, so you can't get any louder than unity gain. For that, I use one of the Line6 compressors- they act as a boost, and you can set them for minimal (or no) compression.
