What exactly is it? Is it an amp a Multi-fx? I am interested and videos I see it looks like they use it as an amp... So how does it work?

Re: Line 6 POD HD info.

It's basically an all-in-one solution. It's a preamp, effects unit, DI, headphone amp, and more. Only things it doesn't have are a power amp and speaker.

Depending on the model will determine it's capabilities. Below in a link to their site and then you can pick which unit is best for you.

BTW, I'm selling one in the trading post. Click here

Gotta afford Christmas gifts first, thanks though ;) but like the big HD PRO the only one I have seen... Uh so would I just need a speaker/cabinet? Or do I need an amp head plugged in? And what exactly is power amp? Like I have no CLUE at all lol it looked big and fancy so I must know all about it aha.

You can just go out to a PA. Even aux out to a radio. You can also disable cab emulations in it and use your guitar amps speaker for color...or you could disable the amp emulation in it and just use it for your distortions/delays/etc.
Its a pretty powerful system.

it's got a big fat LCD screen on it and is fairly..well, sorta easy to see what's going on and how you're routing your signal. You may also be able to plug into a computer and drag-n-drop your stuff into place and then save it to a user preset. I know the Fender Mustang Floor, which is the direct competitor to the POD, uses software that's like that. The Super Champ X2 has the same software. Stuff like the Kemper modeling amp, the Eleven rackmount and the Axe-FX are more complicated and better at what they do.

It's not intrinsically easy to use. You need to do some planning, like a basic idea on what you want on a signal chain and where you want it. You can mess with the knobs later, but you'll have to put as much brain power into it as you would remapping a pedal train, I imagine.

It's easier than earning $1000s to buy all that junk, and then 10s of $1000s to house all that junk. If you're thinking about it, I'd suggest going and playing with one at a guitar store. The amount of knob fiddling may turn you off, like the Peavey Vypyr did for me.

Re: Line 6 POD HD info.

Do you think it saves money in terms of buying pedals and and patch cords and all that extra stuff? Since I am 16 I like to think about what will make me money in the longer run. If that means spend a bit more but if it will make its money back sort of thing, so basically can I take it, plug my guitar to it, hook it up to a cabinet and it will work, or hooky guitar to it then hook it up to a computer? Or can I do both?

Yea, POD will go straight to a guitar amp, or straight to a PA, or straight to a large radio. You'll want a single TRS stereo cable to come out of the POD, and then make a list of things you want to plug your POD into. Come back here and ask what adapters you'd need, or go to Radio Shack, Guitar Center, etc with the list. Standard mono guitar cable into the POD. It should also come with a USB cord to go into your computer. You can probably use it as an audio interface for recording, so that's cool too.

You may want to think about older PODs, tell the truth. They can be waaay cheaper than the HD, which runs mid $300s (used) and upupup. The older ones will do most all of what the HD does, only at half the price. You can spend the extra money on a PA amp, powered mixer, etc. The PODX3 was the one I was eyeballing because it not only has a mass of guitar amps, but it also has a few bass amps and vocal preamp models as well. I understand that the PODHD can do all that too, but I haven't actually seen it utilized.

A POD 2.0, which is the second one to come out, can be found for less than $100 and is a very good piece of equipment.

The Fender Mustang Floor may be something you should look at too. It's a foot pedal setup instead of a desktop "bean". It's got a wah on it and it's supposed to be easy to use.

Re: Line 6 POD HD info.

I'd say to spend some time on the line6 site to figure out what you want first. If you have an amp you like, don't record, or play live without your amp, an HD500 might be overkill. Look at the M9 or M13 which contain the same effects, without all of the connections or amp modeling.

I second this excellent suggestion. Being open to used gear will open up great, affordable options. Almost every guitar I have was second hand.
