Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

Reining PunLowered
I've wanted one of these for awhile. I finally pulled the trigger.

Pros
1. It's SMALL. The receiver's footprint is about the size of a stomp box, but it weighs nearly nothing.
2. The transmitter is small as well, and the input is 1/4". Any instrument/patch cable will work.
3. It's TRANSPARENT. I hear no difference in my tone.
4. It uses AA batteries and holds a charge for ~8 hours.
5. It has six switchable channels.
6. There are signal AND battery power indicator lights on the RECEIVER. :bigok:

Cons
1. The input and the on/off switch are on opposite sides of the transmitter. I'm using a wireless "pouch", so I have to take it out to operate the switch.
2. It is housed in light-weight plastic. I'm not sure how durable it is. Then again, I don't intend to abuse it.
3. One relatively consistent flaw mentioned in reviews is the belt clip. Apparently it's prone to breakage. Hence the "pouch" in #1 above.

Final Cut:
I really like this unit. I've used it in rehearsal. I'll really test it at a gig next week.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

Good stuff, I have the 50 but could've been just as well with the 30. Now you can go bonkers on stage!

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

I got the predecessor, an X2 unit. It works perfectly, and I had to buy a pouch for the same reason you talked about. I can fit my thumb under it to turn it on, though, so no big deal. I wish mine took AA instead of 9V, to be honest, but minor complaint. My major complaint is the weird patch cable it uses. I had to replace one with my Sennheiser before it went out, and that cost nearly forty bucks, if I remember right. The cable is a big deal.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

Whiz, from what I've seen the G30 is the first (only?) wireless using a standard cable.

I don't know what took them so long. Mine screws onto the end of the wireless transmitter, but I'd much rather just have a standard cable. It seems like a very obvious thing to do.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

I have one of the X2 XDR1 units and it's great. Upgrading the cable made a huge difference in the sound, but I also got the cable that allowed me to re-do the connections if needed. The clip broke, now I usually just tape it to the strap and usethe same strap when I swap guitars.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

I've heard nothing but good things about Line 6 wireless units.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

2nd practice out of the way, gig this weekend. So far ME LIKEY!

At the end of practice (literally during the last song) the battery indicator switched to red. Two full rehearsals, and the batteries are not dead yet.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

:ok: update: the included batteries apparently were duds.

We're playing a benefit show tomorrow. We were able to set up tonight. I put new energizers in before we rehearsed. We played for over two hours. Mx battery indicator is 3 lights. At the end of rehearsal I STILL had 3 lights.

i REALLY like this wireless unit.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

Just after we started our next to last song the battery indicator dropped to two lights. That's about 4 hours of playing on that set of batteries.

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

Any change in the sound when the batteries get a little low (only one or two lights lit)?

Re: Line 6 Relay G30 Wireless

None that I've noticed. This thing is amazing. Flawless performance this far.
