Re: line 6 rifftracker (CGord!!!!!)

Buy it! :) I bought mine from Musician's Friend. The drum proggy is very easy to use; I'm starting to want a little more control over it, but I don't want to lose the simplicity. Not having to become a drum programmer was one of the advantages of it to me.

A downside is that you cannot import .wav's or .mp3's & record over them; you can only import .rex files. You can find .rex loops free online, but you're not able to participate in online jams & the like.*

The drum patterns are not very metal oriented; there are a couple, but most are straight rock.

The initial purchase is cheap, but you can spend tons more on it. I've probably spent 3 times the initial cost now on additional drum patterns & amp expansion packs. That's a good thing to me, though, as you can purchase additional stuff as you want to. Definitely plan on buying the Metal Shop amp pack. :headbang:

*There is an online jam community for people with RiffWorks, but it's subscription ($) based. I have not joined.

tell me about .rex, can it be posted up on soundclick or myspace?

that expansion pack stuff seems really cool, but how do you buy them? online? are they expensive?

Re: line 6 rifftracker (CGord!!!!!)

i read that some of the updates are not compatible with windows xp, is this true?

Re: line 6 rifftracker (CGord!!!!!)

Only the drum loops are rex files; you can save completed songs as a wav file with the RiffWorks program. I then use Winamp to convert them to mp3's.

I'm using XP & have no problems.

Buy model packs from Line6's website: http://www.line6.com/products/

They can get expensive, but they're worth it. I have the Metal Shop pack & the Bass pack. (Don't buy the bass pack if you don't have a bass. But if you really get into home recording, you'll want one soon enough! :p)

The RiffWorks recording software that comes w/the RiffTracker is made by Sonoma Wire Works, buy your additional drummers from them: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/store/

You can also look around for .rex loops to buy online or dl for free.
