Line 6 Spider IV 150

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

...Am I?

I do remember a brief period I wanted a Jet King more than I wanted a new car. :D

I think the Ibanez jet kings were one of the most under rated guitars made. I own two of them, both Jet King II, one with the hot pickup in the bridge the other with two 58s. I have many of my better playing friends trying to get the red Jet king from me, the one with the hotter pickup. I love the flexibility of splitting the coils and it is so playable.

I will leave one in my will to you.

Take care

Brad

Dude it's just not worth to occupy space in you house with a 150W Spider :)
You can do better, get a lamp, fake Ming, a bonsai tree.

As for the sound quality, it's not bad.
I prefer Valvetronix over it though.

Have all that already. Also have cat that sits on my music that I am trying to read.

I'm allergic to cats :)

So, you plan to get a head?

Yep, now I remember having a lot of fun on these settings :)
It was not so bad ... pretty articulate sound.

No, the combo is the one for me. Like I said before, for what I want to use it for, its just the guitar and the amp. No carrying around a cab, pedals, just a amp and guitar. Thats why I wanted to know if anyone else was using it in this fashion and how they played these situations.

For all intents and purposes, I will be setting up with the drummer, the other guitar player and our bass guy when he shows up.:friday: We are just dragging around way too much stuff for what we do. I like simple.

Yes, this is similar to the band format I use with my Spider (bass, guitar, drums). It works well. And it doesn't feel like it's screwed to the floor after the gig.

I own a Line 6 Pod XT Live and I cannot live without it. I can go from extreme metal that actually sounds kick ass, to some Duey or Gav created Pink Floyd tones that I simply load into Gearbox.

Personally, I haven't liked any of my Spider amps, but the Pod XT completely blows me away every time I sit down and try something new, I always get a new great tone.

If this thing broke tomorrow, I would go buy another one immediately.

Pod XT / X3 + Gearbox + CustomTone.com = :)

His Pink Floyd patches RULE.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

The general consensus on this forum is tone, and many guys here like the real deal. And so do I.
However, when you are a gigging musician playing small clubs and band contests, the main focus is not tone. You just don't get time to set-up properly! It's also not safe to put your expensive suff in a 'locked' backroom with other misicians who walk in and out all the time.
That's just how it is, chances are also that 90% of the crowd won't notice a difference between a modeler and a real tube amp. Sad but true.

I've used a Spider III 100W with matching cab in a studio we used as a band rehearsal space for a while. Pretty big room, and the Line 6 sounded fine. Held up nicely with a drummer, bassist and another guitarist. Never gigged with it but I would use it as a backup amp for some places. Can only imagine the newer version sounds more realistic. Preset's are meh on line 6 but if you tweak yourself a little the cone can become pretty convincing.

I wish my generation grew up with Line 6! You know what I grew up with? Peavey bandit, Marshall valvestate, Randal's and all that SS muck. At least a modeler sounds somewhat like it's supposed to and can be tweaked to sound acceptable. Those amps I just mentioned cannot be tweaked.
