Line 6 Spider V vs Boss Katana

Re: Line 6 Spider V vs Boss Katana

I love the THR10 series amps. However, they're not in the same class as far as function, power and features as the Katana series...but they could be!

If Yamaha would get their heads out of their rears and produce a proper big-boy THR combo that wasn't a complete departure from the 10-series concept like the THR100 was, I'd probably jump ship from the Katana!

Re: Line 6 Spider V vs Boss Katana

Haven't tried the spider but tried the 1x12 100 katana combo. First ss amp I've played in 20 years. They say it responds like a tube amp, I found close but not quite. It is a very "tight" sounding amp to me. Not a pile of time on it but I think from jazz to metal, blues to country your tone is probably in there, more so if you frig around with the downloads. Lots of effects. Pretty versatile amp. Some reviews make it sound as if the angels ( or demons if you prefer) all stand in unison and sing. It's not quite that good.
But... I ended up ordering the 100 katana head. It shares same features as the combo. I like the idea of the built in 5" speaker in the head and I liked the earphone jack and the dial it down switch. Work has me travelling and staying in a condo for a couple months at a time so I figure the head is neighbor friendly and if I find a local to jam with I can go get a cab later. Would really rather have my home gear but alas.
If you go for the katana get the 100 combo 1/12, 2/12 would probably be better or the head. Oh yeah, they have volume, more than enough.

I wanted to buy a Blackstar ID TVP 100 watts head. Now the Katana 100 head is cheaper and has the onboard speaker...

Tough decisions.
