Line 6 Vetta advice part II

Great advice so far--thank you. Still have a few questions if anyone can offer a helping hand.

Okay, I've decided that if I get one, I'm going to go with the head. Per Dave at Avatar speakers and various opinion sites, the Celestion G12H80 speakers are what the Vetta cab has so loading my cab with these at his special price will work great. That's $180 instead of $599--works for me!

Now, I know I want the Vetta II; however, the Line 6 website advises that the Vetta I is fully upgradable to the Vetta II. Can anyone tell me what, if any differences, besides the cosmetics which I don't care about, I may run into that could make a difference between buying the version I and upgrading it or just buying the II?

Do they both have USB ports for instance? Are the electronics so different that the same patch will sound different from Version I to Version II? I don't care about the wattage because I'm going to use it mainly for recording but I don't want to have to buy any extra equipment to connect it to my computer. Things like that.

I know most of us swear by tube amps but for the small budget I have (you know, sell what you've got to buy the new thing) it seems this amp would give me tons more than my current setup, which for 70's thru 90's garage band to semi pro standards would be awesome. Hell, I saw Kansas from the second row in 1983 and one of the guitarists was using a blackface deluxe propped up on a chair!!! And not even a nice chair, one of those chrome and black vinyl cafateria chairs. This was in a 20,000 seat arena by the way, not a club. How 'bout that! And it sounded great!

Anyway, I have zero experience with modeling amps so I don't know what to look out for. I appreciate in advance any advice.:smoker: :cool3:

there is no difference between the vetta I and the vetta II once you upgrade the vetta I to vetta II specs...no difference...just cosmetic

that being said, any patches you havd already created in the Vetta I will sound a little different in the Vetta II...so some tweaking may be involved...

obviously the solution is to not make any patches until you upgrade it to a vetta II...

i love my vetta...there is no other amp that you'll ever need...

in fact, it fools all my "tube amp snob" friends...

Cool! Does your Vetta I have a USB port? Yeah, I'd upgrade first THEN start messing with patches. I was considering trying a keyboard amp and running my PODxt through that but I think the piggyback option is a better way to go.

75lespaul... you need to come over to my site and talk Vetta on the forum section. Any and everythign you'll need to know will get answered there and may all ready have been.

I personally did not care for the tone on the Vetta I's. I have the Vetta II HD and it rocks! Most of the amps and cabs were revoiced, the addition of the VDI for the Variax was added. I also use the AES/EBU out on the VDI for recording. I go directly from that into our Apogee converter and that is direct into ProTools. Clean as could be and sounds great!

I also run my XT via my Atomic Amps for smaller gigs. The XT has all the model packs to the patches are interchangeable, with teh exception of teh dual amp feature.

When you get your head, email me and I'll send you banks of Vetta patches.

No I have the Vetta II HD. Wasn't an upgrade. I run it into the Genz Benz GFlex 212.

Holy smokes bro--your website is a godsend for line 6 users. I can't decide now if I want a Vetta or if I want to try the Atomic Reactor for my PODxt. Maybe we'll get some ot at work and I'll try both.

The Vetta I will sound just like the Vetta II with the software upgrade. believe me, I have heard the Vetta, Vetta II, and HD 147 side by side. There is a harshness to the HD 147 in my opinion. I have heard rumors of the Vetta II having an improved power amp but I doubt the average ear can detect this.

I also use a VHT Valvulator which is awesome and worth it!!!

I might be strange, but I liked the Vetta I better than the Vetta II. It was easier to dial in better sounding patches. I was hoping the Vetta II was going to be a huge improvement, and well, I was disappointed.

There is no "harshness" to the HD-147 to my ears. That crap about the Valvulator making a big difference is also not true. I have one and all it does is take away from the articulation of the amp. It maybe quiet but it alters the tone to sound a tad less defined in my trials of it. If you want more "tube roundness" and need to use a valvulator then maybe you need a real tube amp.
