line6 delay modeler

i know i've made a thread about this in the past, but i'm about to go for one on thursday when i get my check. i like the fact that you can have all those delay presets, tap temp, and the loop capabilities. so i figure i''ll go for it.

last call, anyone have anything to say about these pieces of gear? good or bad?

Re: line6 delay modeler

i have one, so do my 2 singers (they loop vocals with it)...worth it for the looping alone.

Re: line6 delay modeler

I owned one and it sucked massive tone in the loop of the Soldanos I owned. It worked great in other amps' loops. One common frustration is the inability to see what your settings are for a given preset.

There have been a few reports of spontaneous failure of various L6 stompers but it's hard to say if it's particularly unreliable.

All in all, it sounds good and is quite versatile.

Re: line6 delay modeler

btw, you can set it for true bypass or not (I set it for non-true bypass so the delays trail off when I shut it off)...never noticed a tone difference either way.

As far as not knowing where the knobs are set per preset, just set presets with sounds you can acually tell the difference between. If you can't tell, the presets are too similar. With almost any programmable device, you can't tell where the settings are at first glance- sometimes you have to dig through menus.
On my DL4, 1st preset is a longer digital delay, 2nd preset is a reverse delay, 3rd preset is auto-wah.

Re: line6 delay modeler

gotcha.

after owning a flextone for the past 4 years, i'm used to the way the knobs/presets work, so that shouldn't be a problem. and with the built-in effects on line6 amps, i'm firmiliar with the tap tempo (which i think is a sweet feature).

yeah, i'm pretty excited to finally be able to get this thing, i've wanted it for quite a while now

Re: line6 delay modeler

you can only get a small sense of a product through those reviews though- it is better to ask players directly who use the gear daily. The Boss is ok, but doesnt have the looping the line 6 does- you also cant make the boss a choruse pedal, and overdrive, a Slow Gear, or an auto-wah.

I believe the Boss does have 20-something seconds of looping capabilities. I wasn't aware of those other features with the Line 6 though.

Does nobody read the reviews at Harmony Central? I read them here: http://harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/Line_6/DL4_Delay_Modeler-01.html when I was getting a delay pedal, and it scared me off of the Line 6. I got the Boss DD-20, and am very happy with it. I would highly suggest scrolling through those reviews before you buy the thing.

:bs2: I don't trust most of the reviews on HC, especially when it comes to Line6 products. Everyone is either a 12-year-old who only tried it in the shop for 5 minutes, or a tube/analog snob who hates anything with a chip in it no matter how good it sounds.

While I agree that HC reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, there were just too many people giving the Line 6 delay negative reviews and saying that the footswitches fail for me to plunk down the cash. The Boss DD-20 is digital too, but the HC reviews are much more favorable.

Re: line6 delay modeler

HC is a place with way too many bedroom warriours with way too much time on their hands, and as about much realism as Vicar among a bunch of beserking Vikings.
It will take some time to filter most of the reviews, I never understood why that place has so much merit??

I always assumed it was because there are so few places with a really extensive review database. It's by far the largest I've come across, and sometimes people automatically assume that makes them "more true" I guess?

Kind of like in here? :laugh2:

You can usually tell the valid reviews on HC from the kids or idiots. Check the spelling, that's usually a good tip.

well its not just looping time (line6 has 28 secs), but how you interface with the loop in real time. like making it go backwards, down an octave etc..

Thanks for the info, didn't know about that either.
