List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

like others i had problems with dr, but i havent had any issues for a long time now.

the only strings i like as much as the dr pure blues are snake oil strings and pyramid. the dr's are cheaper and easier to find so i use them most of the time.

d'addario are probably the most consistent, i just dont like them.

D'Addario's are very consistant, used them forever. Haven't noticed any issues with the Dunlop Heavy Cores I'm using now, but haven't been using them as long. I like them much better though.

D'Addario's have got to be the most consistent. I often buy them in bulk packs of 10 and never had a problem.

GHS Boomers are pretty consistent too.

Avoid Fender "bullet" strings.

I still use Gibson Les Paul Signature strings, even tho I've expereinced a few duds once in a while.

I used to use DR regulars thinking you got what you paid for (I believe GC sells them anywhere from $6-7), until a friendly cashier told me about Rotosound strings.

Guitar Center has since stopped carrying RS strings, but a year ago, they were $4.50 a pack.

Nickel wound, AND includes an extra high E string in case you break one. Made in the UK.

They are the hidden gem of guitar strings. Dirt cheap and consistent. Maybe if more people bought/requested them, GC would stock them. I have to order them online now.

Compared to steel strings (Ernie Ball Slinkys, D'Addarios, DR regular), nickel lasts a lot longer. They are more corrosion resistant and softer.

Re: List What You Feel Are The Most Consistent Guitar String Brand

Truth be told, Ive rarely switched. Maybe Im missing out.. When I started playing, I bought a couple of sets of Boomers. A bud said that was the best. I kept breaking E strings. Im almost 100% sure it was set up error on my part, but next time I bought strings I asked the sales guy and he said D'addarios are the best..
Ive been using D'addarios ever since. .10s mostly and recently started using .009s on my 25.5" guitars. Only string breaks Ive had since are when I KNOW I messed up by torking down the sperzel too tight or something dumb.
So, never felt the need to look elsewhere. I did try a set of Elixers, that came on my Taylor and I thought they seemed kinda bland sounding

However, the string that I continue to be the most impressed with is Thomastiks. They're expensive, but when you put em on, you know you are dealing with some real quality.

What he said. I mean, proportionally speaking, I've only used two packs of Blues Sliders, but every time I put them on I was just thinking "Whoa, too bad the rest of my gear isn't good enough to deserve strings as good as these."

I've used most brands on and off (just buy whatever I'd find at the shop), but over the last three or so years I've switched to buying packs in bulk, which is a much better way of gauging a certain brand's consistency since you're using the same ones over and over again. So far, I've bought EB Slinkies, Fender 150s, Gibson Vintage Reissue and Dean Markley Vintage Reissue.

So far, that I can remember, they've all been fairly consistent and long lasting for my fingers and I've found that as long as they're a known brand strings tend to be of a certain standard of decency. Nowadays, I just buy the cheapest bulk I can find and I am yet to find a string that actually makes me say "this is a poorly manufactured product". Sometimes they don't click tonewise, but not quality-wise.
