little 59's slanted

my husband is building me a custom guitar using little 59 pickups with a tuneomatic bridge. this causes the poles on the pickups to be wider than the e to e spacing.
to correct this we are leaning towards a reverse slant on the pickups. (we also like the way it looks on this body) this in turn will cause the strings to cross between the poles of each repective coil an angle with the string moving towards the center of one pole while away from the center of the other. (and vice versa) does any one have experience using a dual coil humbucker at an angle and are there any problems such as phase cancellation, or tone loss?
also if we decide to run them straight (no slant) with the poles wider than the strings will this have a negative affect?
any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: little 59's slanted

The poles hould be aligned as close as possible to its respective string. However you could be off a little and it won't have any ill effects
If you are really concerned try a cool rails , which is voiced similar to a lil 59, but the look is different

Re: little 59's slanted

What you could do, is get a tune-o-matic bridge and get blank saddles for it. That way you could slot the saddles at any spacing you want.

Re: little 59's slanted

thing is with a lil 59, theres two rows of poles to add up...

have you bought the pickups yet? i dunno if SD do trembucker and normal versions of the 59..

p.s just checked my guitar - strat with a slanted lil 59 at the bridge. the polepeices are out of line, and it took this thread to actually notice! the rail-based pickups are another option, since the magnetic feild is the same across its face...

anyway, welcome!

Re: little 59's slanted

thanks for the help i have already bought the 59's and hope to use them if possible. for one reason i want to rout out as little as possble on the figured quilt body and the 59 has a smaller base. I guess the cool rails are a good option if the guitar dosen't sound right when completed. the staggered pole issue would be resolved. I know the little JB is very popular in the bridge position where the string movement is limited so hopefully the same design will be OK in the neck also.
everone is really helpful thanks so much!

OH yeah as to the posting on the blank saddles. thanks I thought of that too but we are using graphtec ghost piezo's and it's not an option. everytime i try to make the perfect guitar i seem to complicat things.
thanks

Purpleheart is nice wood we almost chose it but instead opted for bookmatch quilt maple front and back with chambered padouk center for an orange stripe around the edge but similar tonewood to thte maple. best of luck it's really rewarding but frustrating at the same time. unfortunately they don't make too many guitars for women ie: shorter scale (24in) with narrow and lightwieght body. jaguar comes close, but you are out a lot of money and still not quite there yet.

Re: little 59's slanted

I added a Li'l 59 to the bridge of my Strat a few years ago (replacing a Hor Rails I added previously) and have never hadproblems with drop off either in humbucker mode or single coil.
