Little Studio Amps

I was lookin for a studio amp something like 15-50watt. And I ended with these two option: Vox Ad30vt and Laney Lc15. I think the amp would be for studio use
particurarly for session use. What you think which would be the best? And The loudest for rehearsals and jamming with friends?
Yea and I kinda prefer 80's sound, so I would like your opinion on those amps filling that thing.

I don' think that I'm gonna go for solid state, I was thinkin' about something with tubey sound. Ye adnd it don't have to be small, but not over-the-top size and power.

I never see Laney amps here in Canada... for some reason they have never been a big seller here... One small studio and small gig amp i'm interested in is a Traynor.... not sure the model but it is a 20 watt amp with a greenback speaker....

I have no idea what the Laney LC series sounds like, is it tube? My GH is great if that has any relation to the LC

You could try to find a used Hughes & Kettner Tube 50. It's completely loud enough to play with a band, but the master volume is extremely usable. The amp sounds very good regardless of how quiet you play it. A lot of the pot's 0-50% range is soft, so you can really adjust the volume sensitively, but it has all the power when you need it. The tones are sure to please any 80's enthusiast, plus a great plexi and tweed sound. It's kind of a miniature Triamp when it comes to tone, and would make a totally versatile studio amp. I've gotten almost every sound you could want out of ours.

Go with the Vox AD50VT. Bigger speaker makes a huge difference on how the models sound. Great little amp. Also look for a used Marshall Lead 12. Those things sound great mic'd up. Heck, they sound great not mic'd up. :D Seriously, look at the 50 watt Vox. The wattage control on the back allows you to control whether it's putting out 10, 20, or 50 watts (it goes from like a half watt to 50 watts).

I think the lead 12 is too huuuuuuge for my use :laugh2: :laugh2: and this time I prefer combos not stacks :laugh2:

The 50 watter vox seems tempting, have to try out.

LOL....The Lead 12 is a combo or a stack (mini stack anyway). I've got the combo. It records wonderfully.

Def try out the 50 watter Vox, and take your guitar with you.

The Vox AD50 is a hybrid so it will respond just like a solid state amp. That Laney you are checking out seems like the one you want. As an alternate, there is a little version of the AC30 currently available. It is the AC15CC1, which is an all tube 1x12 combo, and it usually sells for $600 brand new. If you really like the Laney, I say go for it, but this is just something interesting to consider.

Baritone, I don't know about the amp you're decribing, but I do know you don't really want something to respond like a SS amp. :)

Its kinda hard to find, but I have a Marshall studio 15. Its a 15 watt all tube, 12 celestion vintage 30 (that speaker was made for this amp). They were made from like '86-90 or something like that. its like a JCM 800 in a tiny package. I think you can find them on ebay for around $500. It is one of my fave amps- loud as hell for 15 watts- I use it for small to med gigs as well.

Yes I know that i would appreciate all tube amp more, but 'cos the amp would be also for session use and then my sound has to alter sometimes.
How tubey does the ad50vt sound if anybody know?
I've heard that it has 12 ax 7 tube in the power amp so it sound more tubey than marshall valvestate?

The Vox Valvetronix amps, and I have the AD50, reacts more like a tube amp than a SS amp. It's the way the power amp in those things is designed that makes it possible. I've played a few modellers and some side by side. The Vox has the best sound and character of them all, and the closest to a real tube amp that I've tried, and I used a 100 watt tube amp for 10 years prior. The AD50 gets very tuby IMO, IME. The Tweed 4x10 model is excellent, one of the best. The UK 70's and UK 80's are Marshall models, two of my favorites on there. Of the modellers I did try before getting it, this one is the only amp that I like more than 50% of the models.
