Locking nut is too tall

Sand down the back of the nut? Or should I file down the shelf of the neck? I'm thinking the latter, just because it will be easier. Any suggestions?

Re: Locking nut is too tall

Is it too tall as in say a D chord sounds out of tune?

If so you have a few options. The riskier one of sanding the shelf or

But a lower profile locking nut. There are quite a few heights and even height adjustable ones.

the R3 I had was a tad too high so I just got an Ibanez one that was spot on!

That's something nobody ever tells you about. Vendors just sell 'floyd rose locknuts' without any measurements other than width and maybe string spacing and NONE of them are the same, manufacturer to manufacturer.

Floyd rose have a chart that states the different nut heights but iirc its quite tricky to find.

the R9 & R10 are the lowest but are equally as tricky to find

Re: Locking nut is too tall

Yeah, R3 is supposed to be right, but its about 1.5 mm too tall. I'm inclined to use it and just take the shelf down a bit, it's a higher quality piece than the stock Jackson. Are the Ibanez nuts decent?

Yep. I find them to be of equal quality to the FR ones. It was a straight drop in too.

Yours is a little higher than mine was though. If you take the shelf down do it a tiny bit at a time as you can always remove more but you cant add it back in without shimming

Re: Locking nut is too tall

I tend to grind the nut as it is easier to replace than the neck. However, you might look into getting a different nut altogether.

Most Ibanez nuts are Gotoh, so no quality issues there.
