Here's the wiring diagram. Click to embiggen.

Pretty complicated, but in practice it's fairly intuitive. It behaves like a two humbucker guitar + Strat notch positions with the PP's down.

The bridge PP splits the humbuckers regardless of switch position, which makes it more Strat-like. There is no middle by itself, but that is far and away my least used switch position (I have another Strat that has middle by itself if I really need that tone).

The neck PP is an interesting idea I had. It bypasses the tone controls, and on the neck pickup it hard-wires a 68nF cap with a 100k resistor. With the PP up, it should brighten up the bridge pickup, and give the neck pickup a really round jazzy tone. I was inspired by the tone switch on my Duo Jet. With the PP down, I have a 22nF on the bridge tone control, and a 47nF on the neck.

Side note: I'm quite liking these new push-push pots. I was initially skeptical because I've used some really crappy push-pushes in the past, but these are very rugged and have a smooth, sturdy button action.

Your PU switch plan looks very cool. What make are the push/push pots? Are they like the old Yamaha ones from the middle 80's?

I love that headstock.

They don't have a brand mark on them unfortunately. They came from Allparts. They have the same thread/bore as a CTS so it might be that, but I am not really sure.

Sweet looking guitar! I like everything about it!!

Cool deal. You like having extreme versatility too.

No wonder I want you to have my babies.

I like versatility that's useful. That's the key. Every setting on this guitar is useful to me for something. I may not use every possible setting in a show or album, but I do like to have a lot of tones to choose from.

I have a couple other Strats with super-versatile switching and I don't use half of the switch settings ever. That's what I wanted to avoid with this guitar. I already know I'll use all 10 pickup combinations for one thing or another, and the tone switch is just a nice enhancement to that.

What magnet are you going to use in the bridge pickup? I was actually thinking of making a similar hybrid for project that I might do.

Trevor had never shielded a body before, so yesterday I showed him how I did it on my Strat. He did an even better job than I would have.

Also, I guess this is the first time I've posted the body with the finish on it. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Sorry I don't have any better pics at the moment.

Trevor is now doing the finish on the neck. I'll be wiring up the pickguard myself while he does that. (the wiring I wanted is fairly challenging, so I figured it would be easier to do it myself than explain it to someone else :) ).

That's the best copper shielding job I've ever seen.

That's looking real nice.

I can't wait to see the finished product there, that looks amaze-balls.

Re: Lockwire Rosa - custom built for me by pinto79 - progress thread

It's done. I have it.

You're going to have to wait a bit for pics though. Sorry. I have some crap pics that don't do it justice. Nice pics coming very soon. I pinky swear.

First impressions:

- Looks perfect.

- This is the most comfortable-to-play guitar I own by a long shot.

- Best fretwork I've ever seen. Holy crap. Bends are effortless and never lose sustain.

- There is a definite Tele-like snap to this guitar. I assume that's due to the string-through bridge and the swamp ash body.

- Neck and bridge tones are exactly what I hoped for. Notch tones aren't quite what I expected. Might be a phase issue.

It's only had strings on it for 24 hours, and I'm still getting used to it, but I already love it.
