Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

Is this your collection? I love the LP and I really love that transparent red tele. I love the ash grain showing on transparent finishes.
It is, actually, although an old pic. I no longer have that Les Paul or the sunburst Tele. They were sold to make way for an Epi LP Custom in vintage white and a Line6 Variax 500 with a maple board Warmoth neck. I also have a candy orange HSS Strat with a Floyd. I'd post pics but I don't wanna hijack the thread. LOL I need to take a new couch pic once I have my own place again (living with the in-laws sucks...).

Right on. Yikes on living with the in-laws though. Hang in there.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

I think you have the Strat and the Ibanez super Strat bases very well covered.
I think these are nicer guitars than I was playing while in high school.

Nice collection, and if it's true you are in high school, then I'll offer some unsolicited wisdom from an old dude. I eventually got to a point in my life when I had a good job and could buy more of the cool gear I wanted when I was in high school (it was my dream to have a home recording studio, write good songs, record them, and release independent CDs). But then I realized that though I had all the guitars and recording gear to start trying to realize my dream, I didn't have the playing chops to play the music that was in my head and my heart. Thankfully I was able to correct that with several years of dedicated practicing.
There will be plenty of time to buy cool gear. But make practice, cultivating your creativity, improving your playing and songwriting the top priority early on.

This is great advice

+1... more gear is no substitute for more practice! Playing better will take you much further than having tons of stuff! :D

I see. I never really did bother with higher end guitars for a reason, some are overpriced. For example Gibson guitars. Over here the LPJ is literally $1.299 AUD. over there it's like $699 USD. That's not fair. :( I really do like the LPJ but I'm mostly a Strat guy. I tried one of those MIM Blacktop series, it was cool but the price was $800 AUD...

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

That's a horrible pic...it shows absolutely nothing except that you have 4 guitars. It's a better pic of the box next to your rack. You're wasting our time.

Come on, get real! Don't give us that bologna excuse that your house is very cramped. How gullible do you think we are?!

If there is room in your house to lie down or even sit down, there is plenty of room in your house to take a pic of your guitars, one at a time if necessary.

When I was in High School I only had 3 guitars...a 1960 Gibson 330, a 1964 Ric 330, and a Danelectro 12 string.

I hear you, importing fees and taxes are a killer on high end gear. I wish I had stocked up on a few more nice American guitars before moving here. I had no idea I would be facing a 23% tax on everything. On top of that, it's nearly impossible to even find a halfway decent guitar for sale in a local shop around here. Slim pickins.

Remember, there is an exchange rate between US and Australian dollars. Also, does Australia have a VAT-like tax on things?

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

We have a thing here called the Goods and Services Tax. Or GST. I think it's 10% GST or something idk. The only major problem with trying to find a great guitar at a cheap price is to find the right sources. I'm currently GASing for a MIM Blacktop series Strat in black.

This is true. The AUD is actually pretty strong right now which gives it more buying power too. That being said though, the LPJ Nathan was talking about converts to about $1016 USD. It puts it a few hundred above what you would pay in the US (depending on which state you are in and it's respective tax rate).

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

Well I had just 1 guitar at your age and it was a B.O.S. Your photo doesn't do your gear justice but give us a run down on each one and tell us what you're hoping to mod. Other than that you're looking good!

When I was 17 I had an Ibanez Silver Cadet with a Floyd and an MIM Fender Standard Strat. Up to that point I was still rockin' a Crate GX-15 and a solid-state Fender Deluxe 112 Plus. I stupidly put a Duncan '59 Trembucker in the NECK of the Ibanez because I actually broke the stock neck pickup (I was a young punk and was banging on the guitar and knocked one coil off its mounting screws). That pickup still lives in my Frankenstein today.

You need a couch.

Yup.

Or a hallway.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

This is what I think: keep one (H-S-S if any) and sell the rest to buy a good amp and Duncans for the one that you'd keep. TB16b -STKS4m -STKS7n should make for a versatile guitar. And give your guitars better treatment by putting them in clean space.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

He is in high school, isn't he?

Yeah I'm saying my collection was no better or worse when I was seventeen. You take what you can get at an age when education is more important than making money. You buy guitars for cheap off friends who lost interest in guitar, or your parents get you something they can afford, you borrow one from your school's music department, and so on. Then you get what you truly want later on. I'd be curious to hear about where OP got the guitars and what he thinks about them.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

Try to photograph em one at a time. Or even spread em out on the rack so we can see each one alil better. Tell us what models they are and what pups you want to Seymourize with.

What model is the one in front? Looks like a very nice RG! Like the bound neck too! And really dig the color of the one in the back. You have a good thing going! As others have said, it isnt about quantity either. If they inspire you, you are golden! when I was your age, I had a Kramer Striker. Was a gorgeous color and had the fact it was plywood well..

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

The first guitar is an Ibanez RG of some sort, it's badass, and the guitar next to it is the Samick I picked up for $20, then the guitar after that is a Squier California Series Fat strat. then the guitar at the back near the box is an Ibanez GRX-70. The black RG has become my main, and I was thinking of throwing some medium output pickups in it as the pickups that are already in it are too hot and they feedback a lot. What would you guys recommend? All 4 of them are awaiting Seymourization. The Squier i know for sure is getting a pearly gates/hotrails combination in all 3 positions, and the Samick i'm not sure about but I'm thinking just for ****s and giggles wire in the same combination except for the single coils which would be a stacked single coil set, and coil tap on a switch and make the second tone control a blend knob. so V/T/B. The blue GRX is getting new pups probably a JB/Jazz or Distortion/59' combo and a stacked single coil in the middle.

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

If this is the Nathaniel off the Marshall forums, then its too late.. he already collects old Console TV's, and old shot ship boat anchor Pianos beyond repair- has a large room full- even * I gave him static over that..no one collects consoles, and everyone gave him **** over the Pianos.. Plus I think he was asking for free stuff over there, and he got a lot of flak for that. It MAY not be the same person, but I think it is.
And the only reason I hoard is a cause a lack of space.Basically All the stuff in the room is being sold, however I do wanna thank people for lighting a fire under my a** to start getting it done..

Re: Look at my guitar collection and tell me what you think.

I sold off most of my collection except for the few working ones. I know that my 1971 HMV Trent may be worth something, as I have had a few offers on it. I got that thang restored about a few months ago except for the audio. If anything I did make a good decision by culling down my TV collection to a few pieces I like. I also sold my Atari 2600 for $70 to a pawnshop. I still have my C64 and Amiga 500, those two computers are probably going up on the chopping block next and then i'll throw the money towards a Blacktop Strat.
