Looking for a 2x12 Cab

Well, I thought it was time to get rid of the cheep litttle amp Ive been using for a year, and upgrade to something a bit better. So I just bought a Blackstar HT-5H. Now Im looking for a 2x12 cab, as I didnt want to go with the little single 10" cab that goes with it. Not sure on what to get, Im still kinda new to the stuff. I "attempt" to play a mix of Blues and Metal. My guitar is an Epiphone NIghthawk that has been upgraded with a JB Bridge, a SSL-5 Custom Staggered Middle, and a SM-3 Neck. Thanks!

Avatar would be a great choice for the actual cab. As for the speakers, the world is your oyster!

If you want to maximize your wattage, I would go with a very efficient (+97 dB) loudspeaker.

Well...Im looking for one with spearkers already in it, and am looking to stay within 200 used. Was looking at maybe the Bugera 212V-BK 2x12, but wasnt sure it it would work well with the Blackstar head I just bought.

As long as your amp can drive the cabinet's load (measured in Ohms), it should not be a problem. 99.9999% of this stuff is plug and play. It is for guitar players after all. ;)

i'm also in the market for a 2x12 on the cheap, looking at the bugera one and the jet city one. jet city seems to be better bang for you buck with the option to switch to semi-open back, plus it's plywood not mdf. But bugera has yet to dissapoint me so i think either of those would be good on the cheap.. if you get the jet city witha coupon it will be close to that price point.

original poster: I would just go with the 10" that comes with it. a 212 is gonna shake walls and be louder, making it harder to get any tube distortion really

Re: Looking for a 2x12 Cab

^ +1. The reason you get a low wattage amp (5 watts) is either to play at low volumes or to get natural tube distortion at low volumes. In either case you would be defeating that purpose by getting a cab with two efficient 12" spkrs.

If, however, you want the 2x12 cab so you can play loud, then you should have bought a bigger amp.

I'd stick with either a 1x10 or 1x12 cab with a low efficiency spkr in order to get the best out of the amp at relatively low volumes (5 watts can still get pretty darn loud).

Re: Looking for a 2x12 Cab

I happen to have that exact amp (Blackstar HT-5h) and also use a 2x12 cabinet (Genz-Benz 2x12 with Eminence Private Jacks). The blackstar is not my #1 amp, I got it for practice, but man does it deliver. With a 2x12 you can actually crank it up with a drummer with a little volume to spare.

Your dilemma, however, is the fact that there is almost never a 2x12 on the used market. I see 4x12s all the time, and for dirt cheap. If you want the biggest bang for your buck, you should try for the elusive 2x12s, but also used 4x12s which are sometimes even cheaper than 2x12s.

If you are buying new, I'd spend the extra $100 to get one of these, over the bugera:

They all come with name brand speakers. Don't forget to check craigslist, you'll find a used 4x12s for $300 or less pretty easy.

Re: Looking for a 2x12 Cab

I found my Randall 2x12 at Guitar Center's used page in another state and had them ship it to me. I paid like $150 for it and replaced the cheap speakers with Celestion/WGS good stuff... you might be able to find one in which you could just leave the speakers in it. It's not the best, but it's not as bad as Seismic Audio.
