Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

See, I'm just worried a Jazz bridge might come across as too bright in a Strat-like Alder body. LPs have more wood and sound darker to begin with. So, it makes sense for you. But, I wouldn't want to be overly bright. But, I guess that's what EQ and the tone knob is for.

True, but it is helpful to have the right pickup to begin with. Personally, the Jazz bridge is too bright for me, in any guitar.

Yes!

Don't just set the volume and tone to max on your guitar and forget about them! I prefer pickups that sound a little too bright with everything on full. Then I can roll back the volume a touch to kill some highs and volume, or roll back the tone a touch to get exactly the sound I want. But if it ever starts to sound a bit muffled or dark I can always kick it up a bit.

Whole Lotta Humbucker is a bit like a Jazz bridge with the top edge rolled off a bit. I haven’t had it in a Strat/alder and haven’t read of someone trying it in a Strat, but relative to a Jazz bridge, it might solve the issues you cited.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

FWIW, I just worked on a buddy's HH Strat a couple days ago and he has Jazz neck pickups in both positions. From reading the comments in this thread I fully expected it to be excessively bright. Surprisingly, it sounded very balanced into the low input of my Marshall 2204 when play testing it.

Then I went to watch him host open mic last night and was completely fooled on a clean passage when I was absolutely sure he was using the neck pickup, but it was the bridge.

For this guitar, I can't imagine a more balanced pickup for clean tones. Ironically, he plays grunge ala Greenday, Nirvana, Fuel, Weezer, etc so they also sound killer with gain as well.

Learnt me something.

Yeah some searching on the forum reveals they're really good for high gain rhythm. The Jazz Bridge has some really tight bass that lends itself to heavier styles.

Clean pickups usually sound great through gain. Remember, "hot" pickups were conceived in an era where "high gain" amps were not the norm.
