Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

Hi guys!

I have been doing my research, so I apologize in advance if I overlooked a thread addressing my question. My question is in regards to bridge pickups with great cleans.

Now, I have a Jackson; JVM410H with a 1960av cab; Line 6 240HC; and, a Yamaha Pacifica. Lately, I've been playing almost nothing but clean tone progressions on my Pacifica. I run it through my stereo head 240HC/ 1960av and it sounds good for cleans. But, I'd like to upgrade the pickup to something that enhances the clean tones. I'm happy with the mid and neck pickup--for now--so it's the bridge pick up I'd like to replace.

I was thinking about the '59 bridge pick up as a replacement. But, the Pacifica already has a stock Alnico V in the bridge. Would a Seymour Duncan Alnico V '59 really be much better in terms or performance?

The other pickup that seems to get good reviews for cleans is the Alnico II Pro. Both seem suffice, but are there any other options I might be overlooking?

Thx

Jazz Bridge? Seth bridge?

The most overlooked pickup in the entire Duncan lineup is really one of the best in so many ways.
The Jazz Bridge Model.

First of all, it has a clear natural voice where the lows, mids, and highs all sound perfect. Everyone avoids it because of the name Jazz, and the fact Seymour promoted only the Jazz Neck with JB as his favorite "set."
However, the bridge model works great in HSS strats, sounds good distorted, and sounds better than most humbuckers, clean.

The Jazz Bridge also happens to be a good choice for the
neck position for it's power and clarity, in case you decide against using it in the bridge position.

Get a Jazz Bridge bruh.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

Do they still make the Jazz SH-2B? It's strange I don't see it offered on many of the sites I frequently shop from. I didn't see the Jazz bridge available through my local music store, Long & Mcquade. They did have the Jazz neck pickup available. I assume they should be able to order it in as they are a Seymour Duncan dealer.

I really hope they can get it in.

Thx for the replies!

I ordered mine directly from SD. They just don't pop up that often.

So, it's a situation where they are just not offered very often?

There's just no demand for them. This is not to say it's a bad pickup but not many players use a bridge HB for clean tones primarily. Most players who use them are long time forum members and very few outside this circle even know it exists.

59N in the Bridge is the best bridge clean tone I've ever heard

What kind of music are you playing using a clean bridge pickup? Surf? Country? Funk?

I had taken classical guitar lessons in the past. So, I've adopted PIMA picking to my electric playing. So, it's like rock with finger picking. So, I'd like to add nice HB to compliment the mid and neck pickup on the Pacifica.

I've been researching that pickup too. Ive been trying to take in as much as I can to make an educated choice.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

The 59, Alnico II Pro, Seth Lover, and Antiquity all have wonderful clean tones. The Seth & Antiquity have a little more touch-sensitivity due to being unpotted. They sound better to me than the Jazz bridge, which is really bright, and doesn't have the complexity.

S-Deco/T-Deco, Jazz, Alnico 2 Pro, Seth

You guys all know an Alnico 2 Pro with an A5 is a Jazz, right?

Unconventional answer might be a Tele bridge like a Broadcaster bridge in a Humbucker adapter.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

Put a Jazz bridge + Screamin Demon in an Explorer I previously owned. Had really nice cleans.

And yes, I also learned about using the Jazz bridge as a neck pickup on the forum and I'll use it again if the need comes up.

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

For cleans I'd go with the '59, Seth or Jazz.

Or the Invader. Everyone needs a darth side.

So many options! I wish I was in a larger city to try these pickups out. Sigh!

Re: Looking for a bridge Seymour Duncan for clean tones exclusively.

I agree with the Jazz Bridge and Seth.
Right now, I have my old LP Custom with an uncovered Seth bridge (RCA5 mag for more brightness) and the neck has a Jazz bridge covered but backed off just a touch and I get a great balance of cleans from both.
One of my Strats has a Jazz bridge (in the bridge position) and it sounds great.

See, I'm just worried a Jazz bridge might come across as too bright in a Strat-like Alder body. LPs have more wood and sound darker to begin with. So, it makes sense for you. But, I wouldn't want to be overly bright. But, I guess that's what EQ and the tone knob is for.
