Looking for a brutally clean amp...

look up brutally clean in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of a Fender Twin Reverb.

Or a douche!

Re: Looking for a brutally clean amp...

I think many of us will agree that a good Fender Twin is THE clean amp that all other clean amps are compared to. If you get the right one, there is no equal. Period. Unless of course, you are willing to spend the $$$ to get a Matchless or Bruno or some other quality boutique amp.

To get a bit more generic, you want a high powered (85 or more watts) of clean tube power with a tube preamp section that is harmonically rich but not "distorted" sounding. Then you need some speakers can handle that power and NOT distort either. A good (or two good) Weber or old high power Jensen is the real deal. Warm rich, fat, clear and 3 dimensional sounding.

Comparing a Fender Twin to a Roland Jazz Chorus is like comparing lightning to a lightning bug. :D

silverface twin, red knob twin, or Rivera-era twin reverb 2.

Ok...ALL the Rivera-era amps do have a pretty good clean sound but are really known for a crunch tone and ALL the red kno Fender amps sounds like total crap...no body to the tone, brittle top end, mushy bottom end, bad reverb, real bad built in crunch, junk speakers, the list goes on.

Mrid, Like I keep saying the Ampeg has a very clean tone but it's kinda dark sounding and it has a funky reverb, if you want a more "Standard" clean tone get a SF Twin and blackface it...the later 135 watt SF twins are pretty sterial sounding and need some help, but they can be blackfaced pretty easy and will sound killer.

brutally clean with lots of head room...

Hot Rod Deville 4X10...

the only complaint i hear about his amp is how clean and loud it is...lol!!!

Re: Looking for a brutally clean amp...

The old Earth stuff is loud and clean. Mainly a Fender clone, Jeff Beck used them for a bit.

The old Earth stuff is loud and clean. Mainly a Fender clone, Jeff Beck used them for a bit. Lots of the Univox stuff is very clean toned as well. If you can find one the Japanese Fender clones made by Elk ( and a couple other names) are very cheap and have a clean voice.
